Letón Pé Introduces the World to Demvogue on ‘¿Cuándo Se Va’ir El Calor?’

Letón Pé has been on the rise, thanks the parade of upbeat, endlessly energetic songs she’s been releasing out of the Dominican Republic the last couple of years. (She was named one of Rolling Stone’s 10 Latin artists to watch in 2023.) Her latest track “¿Cuándo Se Va’ir El Calor?” is another showstopper that introduces the world to a sound Pé is calling “demvogue.”

The song was produced by Latin Grammy winner Julian Bernal, and the collaboration came when Pé started joking about sampling one of his Instagram videos four years back.

They coined the term “demvogue” after taking the rapid-fire rhythm of dembow and mixing it with flashy club flourishes for a high-octane summer anthem. “The term ‘demvogue’ was something we came up with while we were exploring the genre that currently reigns supreme in my homeland,” Pé said in a statement. “I felt the need to do it on my own terms. Being such a fan of Nineties house music, we decided to intersect these two, creating a fresh sound that represents my culture and my influences.”

In the video, Pé vamps it up as she fills an inflatable pool with a hose — something known as a “manguerazo” in the Dominican Republic. “I wanted to reconnect to my childhood and relive those moments through the visuals,” she said.

Pé was recently named an artist to watch at Premios Juventud, which takes place next week. “¿Cuándo Se Va’ir El Calor?” follows a few head-turning singles, including “Good Enough,” “Selfish,” and “Ando Animal,” which featured Piek.
