Amazon Drops OpenAI Movie ‘Artificial’ After Partnering With AI Company

"Artificial will be better served if it were released by a different studio," company says of Luca Guadagnino-directed film about OpenAI and founder Sam Altman

Amazon has dropped their upcoming film Artificial, about OpenAI and its founder Sam Altman, four months after the two companies agreed to a “strategic partnership.”

Artificial, directed by Luca Guadagnino and starring Andrew Garfield, was reportedly nearly complete and already having test screenings when Amazon MGM Studios announced Saturday that the company had parted way with the film, with Amazon alluding to the conflict of interest in a statement.

“We have the utmost respect and admiration for Luca Guadagnino as an award-winning filmmaker — not to mention a longstanding relationship that we hope to continue,” an Amazon spokesperson said. “We believe that Artificial will be better served if it were released by a different studio and are working closely with the filmmaking team to find the film a new home.”

Variety reports that Artificial has already been shopped to perspective studios and streaming services, ones that haven’t entered $100 billion+ partnerships with OpenAI; in February, Amazon Web Services and OpenAI announced a deal to “build generative AI applications and agents at production scale” and “develop customized models available to power Amazon’s customer-facing applications.” The deal included Amazon investing a further $50 billion into OpenAI on top of a $100 billion eight-year contract between the companies. With that much money involved, Amazon was likely reluctant to fully support (or even release) Artificial, which Variety says paints OpenAI founder Altman in a negative and unlikeable light. In addition to Garfield, Artificial also stars Monica Barbaro, Yura Borisov, Cooper Hoffman, Jason Schwartzman, Mark Rylance, and Ike Barinholtz as Elon Musk.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Has a Brand New Trailer, and Spidey Is Freaking Out

The first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day became the most-viewed trailer in 24 hours ever this past March, and now producers are starting over from scratch with a new glimpse at Tom Holland’s fourth venture into the Spiderverse, which opens July 31. The hooks this time include Spider-Man spinning out of control, Peter Parker asking Bruce Banner how to suppress his mutations, the Incredible Hulk hulking out incredibly, and, most horrifically, New York City skyscrapers crumbling outward.

In the trailer’s final scene, a group of what look like SWAT officers have Spider-Man surrounded and he stuns them by saying he needed to take a minute to stretch. “I’m not in high school anymore,” he quips. “Do you stretch? Are you a big stretcher? It’s so good for you.” Then of course he shows them what he’s made of.

Jimmy Kimmel Roasts Trump Over Reflecting Pool Gaff: ‘He Can’t Even Get That Right’

Jimmy Kimmel took aim at Donald Trump‘s disastrous decision to paint the Washington, D.C. reflecting pool a shade of “American flag blue.”

“Trump spent reportedly $14 million updating the reflecting pool on the National Mall,” Kimmel explained. “He set out to resurface and repaint it because he didn’t like the way it looked. He wanted to paint it American flag blue. That was the color. So, the project was completed last week. And now, not even a week later, it’s already completely green.”

Sean Penn Plans Jan. 6 Cop Biopic Starring Bradley Cooper: Report

If he can get away with it, Sean Penn is planning on directing a biopic about the early life of a policeman who was present at the Jan. 6 insurrection. Bradley Cooper would play the cop, according to Variety. Deadline, which broke the story, mentions that the cop is “caught up” in the riots, but elides which side of the divide he’s on. But since Penn is involved, it’s fair to assume it’ll be an indictment of President Trump. Nevertheless, Deadline is calling the script “an unexpected story about friendship,” as opposed to a film explicitly about Jan. 6.

The snag for the as-yet-untitled film is that it’s tied to Warner Bros., which is currently in talks with Paramount — a company with strong ties to the White House. The Justice Department recently approved Paramount’s bid to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery. Paramount President David Ellison hosted a dinner for the Trumps in April and was present at the president’s birthday UFC fight, which Paramount Plus broadcasted. Penn, as Variety notes, has called the president “an enemy of mankind.”

Guns N’ Roses’ Duff McKagan Praises ‘Bigger Than Life’ Canadian Punks D.O.A. in Doc Clip

Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan and Circle Jerks frontman Keith Morris marvel at the impact that the punk band D.O.A. had in the Eighties in a clip from the new documentary Something Better Change. “D.O.A. was bigger than life,” McKagan says, heaping praise on the Canadian group fronted by Joey “Shithead” Keithley. “They were, to me, as big as Led Zeppelin. I owe so much to what I am today to him and to his band.” The film, which tells Keithley’s story, is now available on streaming.

In the clip, Morris recalls seeing D.O.A. opening for X at the L.A. venue the Starwood. “D.O.A. came out and decided to just level the Starwood,” he says. “It was an incredible show. Jesus Christ, man, how is X going to play after that?”

Tom Holland Basically (Kind of) Confirms Zendaya Wedding

At long last, verifiable statements about Tom Holland and Zendaya’s long-rumored wedding have finally emerged, and this time straight from one of the two parties involved. Yes, we can finally confirm that the couple did get married recently… probably. We think.

The nuptials have been the subject of much speculation since Zendaya was seen at the 2025 Golden Globes wearing what looked like an engagement ring. Then, in March, Zendaya’s longtime stylist, Law Roach, claimed that the wedding had “already happened” during a red carpet interview.
