Hudson Williams has faced plenty of attention since becoming a pop culture phenomenon, but he might have just given one of his most important interview yet, with his recent appearance on CBC'S The Assembly. The Heated Rivalry star sat down with a group of autistic and neurodivergent interviewers for an unusually candid conversation that covered everything from his relationship with Connor Storrie to ADHD, family expectations and his tattoos.
One of the interviewers, Nate, asked Williams directly whether he had ever developed romantic feelings for Storrie, his co-star in the hit hockey drama. Williams described the pair as "platonic soulmates" who are "just completely in love with each other," while making clear that their relationship is not romantic.
The conversation also turned personal when interviewer Julia asked how his Korean cultural background had influenced his experience with ADHD. Williams explained that the emphasis on discipline and working harder had sometimes led him to dismiss his own struggles rather than acknowledge them. "I feel like a lot of the answer in Asian culture is just more discipline, more discipline," he said, adding that the approach can sometimes mean denying oneself understanding and kindness. He also discussed his previous reluctance to take medication for the condition.
Williams was equally forthcoming about his experience filming the intimate scenes in Heated Rivalry. He recalled organizing a screening for his mother and friends, who brought party horns to sound whenever a sex scene appeared, giving his mother a signal to cover her eyes.
The episode ends with several interviewers performing an a cappella rendition of t.A.T.u.'s "All the Things She Said," a song featured on the Heated Rivalry soundtrack.
Williams' appearance is available on CBC Gem, including an extended producer's cut. Other guests this season include: Zach Galifianakis, Jay Baruchel, Team Canada captain Marie-Philip Poulin, Ashley Callingbull and singer-songwriter Lights.
