More than 100 people have already signed up for a Toronto competition that will test just how many Nathan Fielders the city can accommodate.
The lookalike contest, scheduled for November 17 at Paradise Theatre, will put contestants through a series of challenges inspired by the Vancouver-born comedian's television career, including mock business pitches and karaoke featuring songs by Evanescence and Lana Del Rey.
The competition is part of a collaboration between MUBI Canada and Bad Dog Theatre Company. Toronto comedians Andrew Phung, known for Kim's Convenience and Run the Burbs, and Hannah Spear will host and judge the proceedings. Gold, silver and bronze prizes will be awarded, although organizers have not disclosed what the winners will receive.
The event follows a Nathan Fielder and Elizabeth Holmes lookalike competition held in New York City's Washington Square Park on October 25. That gathering was organized in connection with You Can See Everything, the documentary about Holmes directed by Lance Oppenheim, with Fielder serving as a co-director.
Toronto's competition will conclude with a screening of the first episode of The Curse, Fielder's series with Benny Safdie, starring Emma Stone.
The November 17 event begins at 8 p.m. Admission is free, but capacity is limited and an RSVP does not guarantee entry. Registration is available through MUBI Canada and Bad Dog Theatre Company's social media accounts.
