Jake Gyllenhaal Is ‘Presumed Innocent’ and Surely Didn’t Kill Her in New Series Trailer

Jake Gyllenhaal Is ‘Presumed Innocent’ and Surely Didn’t Kill Her in New Series Trailer

Jake Gyllenhaal may have innocently kept that red scarf from that very first week, but in a new trailer for his new Apple TV+ series, his character Rusty Sabich is suspected of a serious crime.

On Wednesday, Apple TV+ released the trailer for Presumed Innocent, an eight-episode limited series out June 12 that follows Gyllenhaal’s Chicago prosecutor character as he’s confronted and accused of playing a role in the murder of his colleague.

The trailer follows Rusty Sabich as he’s informed of a woman named Carolyn who was found dead and as he’s prosecuted for her killing. “Were you and Carolyn romantically involved?” the prosecutors ask Rusty as steamy sex scenes play.

“Am I a suspect?” Rusty asks. “Because I did not kill her.”

As the trailer continues, Rusty’s complex relationship with Carolyn as new evidence shows up as he faces dozens of questions about the death. “I didn’t kill her,” he repeats throughout the episode more than a dozen times.

Presumed Innocent is based on Scott Turow’s 1987 novel. If the prosecutor-accused-of-killing-his-colleague premise sounds familiar, Harrison Ford starred as that prosecutor in a 1990 film of the same name.

Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, O-T Fagbenle, Chase Infiniti, Elizabeth Marvel, Nana Mensah, Renate Reinsve, Peter Sarsgaard, and Kingston Rumi Southwick also act in the show, executive produced by J.J. Abrams.

“The series explores obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together,” reads the show’s synopsis.

New episodes for the show will be released every Wednesday through July 24 after the first two episodes drop on June 12.

Harvey Weinstein’s Rape Charge Retrial Scheduled for April

After a jury in a previous retrial failed to reach a verdict on a rape charge, Harvey Weinstein will begin another retrial on April 14, per The Hollywood Reporter. The Class E felony charge, which carries a maximum sentence of four years in New York, is related to accusations from the actress Jessica Mann.

In June 2025, a New York jury found Weinstein guilty on one count of a criminal sexual act during his retrial. He was also found not guilty on another count of a criminal sexual act. The rape charge resulted in a mistrial. In the initial 2020 case, Weinstein was convicted for one count of a felony sex crime and another for third-degree rape. He was sentenced to 23 years in prison. In 2024, an appeals court overturned the conviction.

Shia LaBeouf Ordered to Rehab After New Orleans Arrest

Shia LaBeouf was ordered to take a drug test on the spot and to return to rehab after the Holes actor was arrested earlier this month on two counts of simple battery during Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans.

The 39-year-old avoided jail time by agreeing to seek treatment and bailing out on a $100,000 bond on Thursday. He also agreed to submit to weekly drug testing. LaBeouf was arrested after “causing a disturbance” and getting increasingly “aggressive” before he struck two people during a scuffle outside a bar near the French Quarter, according to law enforcement. A police report claimed LaBeouf shouted homophobic slurs at the people he was fighting with.
