The 2026 Emmy Awards are here — and the stars have come out in full force to celebrate the best in television and accept their trophies.

This year, medical drama The Pitt led all nominees with 25, including Outstanding Drama Series, a distinction the show won last year alongside acting wins for stars Noah Wylie and Katherine LaNasa. This year, Wylie, LaNasa, Patrick Ball, Shawn Hatosy, Gerran Howell, Taylor Dearden, Fiona Dourif, and Sepideh Moafi are all nominated for their performances.

Hacks trailed just behind with 24 nominations, and set a record for most Emmy nominations for a single season of TV comedy. Alongside vying for Outstanding Comedy Series, star Jean Smart is looking to win her fifth straight Outstanding lead Actress in a Comedy series prize for her portrayal of Deborah Vance, while Hannah Einbinder is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, which she won in 2025.

Two breakout shows earned impressive nominations this year: Pluribus and Widow’s Bay. Widow’s Bay, the macabre comedy about a cursed New England island, earned 19 nominations, including acting looks for stars Matthew Rhys, Stephen Root, Dale Dickey, and Kate O’Flynn.

Meanwhile, Pluribus, the post-apocalyptic sci-fi series from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, garnered 18 nominations. Star Rhea Seehorn is up for an acting Emmy after twice losing for her celebrated turn on Gilligan’s Breaking Bad prequel series, Better Call Saul. Her co-stars Carlos-Manuel Vesga and Karolina Wydra are also nominated for their performances.

Other notable nominees this year include Beef and DTF St. Louis, which led the Limited Series categories. And perennial Emmy favorites, including Only Murders in the Building, Abbott Elementary, Slow Horses, The Bear, and The Diplomat all picked up nominations.

TIFF Takes Aim at Trump's 'Lake America' Came Change on Opening Night

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has officially started, as some of the movie world's biggest stars descend upon the city's red carpets amid some strained relationships between Canada and the United States. Obviously, on the opening night of the festival, Trump was at the center of the conversation, specifically for his renaming of Lake Ontario to Lake America.

At Thursday night’s world premiere of Sian Heder’s Being Heumann, TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey, programmer Anita Lee and Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow each took pointed aim at U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial attempt to rename Lake Ontario as “Lake America.” Bailey drew the first laugh during his opening-night remarks at Roy Thomson Hall, referring to the body of water bordering Toronto by its longstanding Canadian name. The comment was met with sustained applause and laughter from the festival crowd.

Justin Trudeau Launches Media Production Company at TIFF

Former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau is launching a new production company with his longtime chief of staff, Katie Telford, and is expected to make the announcement at the Toronto International Film Festival today, according to reports from The Canadian Press.

Called Hope & Hard Work, the company will develop scripted and unscripted projects, some already underway. Trudeau and Telford are attached as executive producers on two of the first projects. Perry Chafe’s Closer by Sea, a Newfoundland-set coming-of-age novel, will get its own film adaptation, as will Uzma Jalaluddin’s murder mystery Detective Aunty. Both novels were best-sellers in Canada.

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone shared an official apology for the delays around their forthcoming film collaboration with Kendrick Lamar. The musical, titled Whitney Springs, was originally announced in 2022.
