The Backstreet Boys are giving their fans more competitive stakes to root for as they join the Global Gaming League. The band will compete on the gaming tournament platform as Backstreet Gaming, the latest in a string of celebrity-owned teams that will go head to head with other gaming groups across video game formats.

“We’ve spent our careers performing together. Now we’re building a team to compete together,” Nick Carter said in a statement. “We love gaming, we love a little trash talk, and we’re coming into this to win. We want to find players who are ready to put Backstreet Gamers on the map and have another way to connect with our fans.”

Like other teams on the platform, Backstreet Gaming will consist of four members who will compete in professionally-assembled live events. The game roster can include anything from Call of Duty and Rocket League to Pac-Man and Donkey Kong, so the teams have to be in it to win it and ready for anything.

“The Backstreet Boys know how to turn fans into a community that lasts for decades,” said Global Gaming League founder and CEO Clinton Sparks. “Now imagine giving that community a team to root for, rivals to beat, and a real opportunity to earn a spot on the roster. That’s what we’re building with GGL. Someone playing in their bedroom today could end up competing for Backstreet Gamers team on a global stage.”

Artists like T-Pain, Ne-Yo, Flavor Flav, and more have already launched their own teams through the Global Gaming League. In September, T-Pain’s Nappy Boy Grizzlies faced off against Ne-Yo’s Gentleman’s Gaming in Las Vegas, with Ne-Yo emerging victorious in a Tekken match at the Global Gaming League Season Zero launch event. Now, they’ll both have to keep an eye out for Backstreet Gaming.

Protest the Hero Take 'Within' Across Canada This Fall

After six years between studio albums, Protest the Hero returned this summer with Within, a new record that finds the Canadian progressive metal band turning inward while retaining the technical intensity that has defined its sound for more than two decades. Now, the Whitby, Ontario, group is bringing the album home for a coast-to-coast Canadian tour spanning November and December.

Released on July 17, Within follows 2020’s Palimpsest and is the band’s first fully independent release. For vocalist Rody Walker, one of the album’s defining characteristics emerged without a deliberate plan.

Guided by Voices Welcome 2027 by Announcing ‘Speculation and Gossip’

While working on Guided by Voices‘ 44th studio album, Speculation and Gossip, frontman Robert Pollard developed an obsession with Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. “[I watched it] over and over,” he says. “I’ve almost learned the dialog like Rocky Horror Picture Show.” The record drops January 22 via the band’s Rockathon Records.

Pollard has also been immersed in surrealism and dada, fitting genres for a musician and visual artist who has a knack for bending words and images to his will — either via hallucinatory lyrics or collages that mesh realms both physical and meta.

Bryan Adams Takes Aim at Trump's Political Distractions on New Song “Lake Ontario”

Bryan Adams is voicing his opinion in the turmoil surrounding one of Canada’s Great Lakes. The Canadian singer-songwriter shared “Lake Ontario”, a new single from his upcoming album How’s It Goin’, due November 6 through BAD Records.

Without ever naming Trump, the singer accuses powers that be of political distraction, taking aim at attempts to rename the body of water and questioning the motives behind the controversy. Adams also invokes the Epstein files, suggesting that the debate is diverting attention from other matters.

Michael Kiwanuka Explores the Playful Spirit That Inspired His Album ‘Fudge’ in New Short Film

During the spring and summer of 2023, Michael Kiwanuka decamped to a small, remote recording studio near his home in Southampton, England. The celebrated singer-songwriter, who’d won the prestigious Mercury Prize for 2019’s Kiwanuka, was about halfway done with his follow-up, 2024’s Small Changes, but was already starting to conceptualize the album that would come after that.

In a short documentary filmed at that time — and premiering today exclusively on Rolling Stone — Kiwanuka talks about this gestating project in terms of the fun, mindless doodles he’d draw at university, or while chatting with someone.

Jay-Z and J. Cole Back Lil Durk’s Latest Bid for Release: ‘Respectful and Focused’

Jay-Z and J. Cole are throwing their weight behind Lil Durk’s latest bid for release from federal custody.

The two hip-hop stars submitted letters to a federal judge Tuesday, urging Durk’s release on bond as the Grammy-winning rapper awaits an August 2027 trial in Los Angeles on racketeering-related charges. The charges were separated from his recent murder-for-hire trial, which ended with his acquittal on all counts.
