Timbaland and Swizz Beatz Are Bringing Verzuz Back on X

Timbaland and Swizz Beatz Are Bringing Verzuz Back on X

It has been two years since Timbaland and Swizz Beatz last hosted music battles as part of their popular series Verzuz. The indefinite hiatus followed the settlement in 2022 of a lawsuit against the social media app Triller. Triller acquired the rap battle show in 2021 and returned ownership to the two mega-producers earlier this year. Now, they are preparing for Verzuz to make its return, this time in partnership with a different social media app: Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter).

“We are thrilled to partner with X, the most innovative platform globally. Our goal has always been to bring Verzuz to the world which we can now do bigger than ever,” Timbaland said in a statement.

Swizz Beatz added: “We are beyond thrilled to have found the best partner for Verzuz. Not only are we excited to have Verzuz on X, we’re excited to help X build the biggest entertainment company in the world.”

Through the partnership, the pair are hoping to capitalize on the viral conversation that often dominated the app during previous Verzuz battles. Episodes of the series have been streamed on both Instagram Live and Apple Music, bringing in millions of viewers across both platforms — in addition to being hosted in person at venues such as New York’s Madison Square Garden — but the discourse existed largely on X, then known as Twitter.

The newly-launching partnership will allow Swizz Beatz and Timbaland to maintain ownership and creative control of Verzuz while granting exclusive distribution rights to X, which is currently helmed by CEO Linda Yaccarino.

Notable matchups on the show — which features two musicians going head-to-head with selections from their discography — have included Brandy and Monica, Jeezy and Gucci Mane, Ashanti and Keyshia Cole, and Mario and Omarion. The next Verzuz battle will be announced soon, according to a press release about the show’s return.

Speaking to Rolling Stone in 2022 about the potential return of Verzuz, Swizz Beatz promised that it would come back “harder than we ever went.”

Is the Touring Business Broken for Indie Acts?

Dry Cleaning had big plans for January 2026. The English band spent much of the past two years making their third and best album, Secret Love, which brings their uniquely beguiling mix of post-punk and art-rock styles to a new creative peak. Now, with the album’s release set for early this month on 4AD, they were preparing to launch a 21-date tour of North America, historically a strong market for the band, with a Jan. 23 show in Chicago.

Ticket sales were looking good, and the band was feeling excited. But their U.S. visas hadn’t come through yet, months after they got their applications in. Soon they were facing thousands of dollars in expediting fees, on top of the already high costs of mounting a tour of that size. “I started to look at it and I was like, ‘I’m a little bit worried about cash flow,’” says their manager, Tim Hampson. “There were just too many variables starting to stack in a way that made me feel extremely uncomfortable.”

Drake Appeals Dismissal of ‘Not Like Us’ Defamation Case, Calls Ruling ‘Dangerous’

Three months after a federal judge dismissed Drake’s defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group, the superstar rapper and his lawyers filed an opening appellate brief Wednesday that seeks to overturn the ruling and revive his bid for damages over Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy-winning diss track, “Not Like Us.”

In the new 60-page brief obtained by Rolling Stone, Drake argues that Lamar’s track states, as an “unambiguous matter of fact,” that he is a “certified pedophile.” He also claims Universal Music Group “relentlessly” marketed the song in a way that misled consumers and caused him serious harm. The brief contends that the allegation carries a “precise” and readily understood meaning that is “capable of being proven true or false,” a point the district court previously acknowledged, according to the filing.
