Kendrick Lamar’s Victory Lap Continues With ‘Not Like Us’ Video

Kendrick Lamar’s Victory Lap Continues With ‘Not Like Us’ Video

Kendrick Lamar is celebrating the Fourth of July by dropping the anticipated music video for his Drake diss track, “Not Like Us.”

The video is chock-full of cameos, including one from Tommy the Clown, who also made an appearance at his recent Pop Out concert in Inglewood. The Compton rapper also uses the visual to celebrate his hometown, dancing with producer DJ Mustard (who is not-so-coincidentally wearing a Toronto Blue Jays cap) and a gathering of fans at locations like City Hall and Tam’s Burgers. Even Lamar’s fiancé, Whitney Alford, and their two kids appear in the video.

In a clear nod to Drake, the music video is heavy on owl imagery, with Lamar whacking an owl-shaped piñata, while a disclaimer flashes across the screen reading, “no OVHoes were harmed during the making of this video.” Later, Lamar stands with a live owl perched on his arm, and the final shot is of an owl in a cage.

The video was reportedly shot just days after the rapper’s Juneteenth show, during which he played “Not Like Us” five times. “Y’all ain’t gonna let nobody disrespect the West Coast, huh?” Lamar asked the crowd before running through the track again and again, with each performance of the song growing in fervor.

The rap war between Lamar and Drake had been going strong for several months but seemed to slow down in recent weeks — that is until this video dropped. Since Lamar took aim at Drake with his verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That” in March, the Compton and Canadian rappers have traded dozens of verses. In May, Rolling Stone declared Lamar the ultimate victor, noting that “overall, Lamar’s shots hit harder.”

Drake Appeals Dismissal of ‘Not Like Us’ Defamation Case, Calls Ruling ‘Dangerous’

Three months after a federal judge dismissed Drake’s defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group, the superstar rapper and his lawyers filed an opening appellate brief Wednesday that seeks to overturn the ruling and revive his bid for damages over Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy-winning diss track, “Not Like Us.”

In the new 60-page brief obtained by Rolling Stone, Drake argues that Lamar’s track states, as an “unambiguous matter of fact,” that he is a “certified pedophile.” He also claims Universal Music Group “relentlessly” marketed the song in a way that misled consumers and caused him serious harm. The brief contends that the allegation carries a “precise” and readily understood meaning that is “capable of being proven true or false,” a point the district court previously acknowledged, according to the filing.

Katy Perry joins Trudeau and Carney in Davos

After visiting China and Qatar in recent days for new trade agreement negotiations, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is currently in Davos, in the Swiss Alps, where the World Economic Forum is being held.

Earlier today, his predecessor Justin Trudeau delivered a speech in which he emphasized the importance of “soft power,” more crucial than ever in a tense climate, as all eyes are fixed on President Trump, who continually threatens international geopolitical stability. However, he carefully avoided mentioning Trump directly and did not comment on his successor’s mandate to date.

In the lead-up to the announcement of his fourth album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, Harry Styles left cryptic messages scattered across the world. One in particular read, “Let the light in.” As it turns out, the note was a nod to the first single from the album, “Aperture.” The song will be released worldwide at 7 p.m. EST on Jan. 22 ahead of the album’s March 6 arrival.

Aperture, of course, controls how much light passes through a camera.
