Tupac Shakur’s Family Files New Wrongful Death Lawsuit

This September will mark the 30th anniversary of Tupac Shakur‘s violent death in Las Vegas, and little is known for sure about what actually happened that day. More than two decades later, Duane “Keefe D” Davis was eventually arrested for the murder in 2023 and is awaiting trial. In order to learn more, attorneys for Maurice Shakur, Tupac’s stepbrother, have filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Los Angeles alleging a “complex conspiracy to murder Tupac that involved much more than mere retaliation for a prior altercation.”

“Many individuals who were involved have long since passed way, while others have been hard to identify,” reads the suit obtained by Rolling Stone. “Yet, one thing is certain: there remain individuals who were involved in Tupac’s murder who, for 30 years, have not been held accountable for their crimes. This action seeks to change that and to recover damages for the wrongful death of Tupac.”

The suit cites recent grand jury testimony connected to Davis’ arrest, and the recent Netflix documentary Sean Combs: The Reckoning, which contains a recording from a police interview where Davis purportedly claims that Combs offered him $1 million to murder Tupac. The allegation has been furiously denied by Combs, who called the Netflix documentary a “shameful hit piece.”

The lawsuit lists 99 unnamed co-conspirators they wish to gather information on through the discovery process. “While the investigation and public record have revealed the names of certain individuals who may have participated in or facilitated the murder,” reads the complaint, “the specific nature and extent of each individual’s involvement—and the identities of additional individuals who may have participated in planning, financing, directing, or carrying out the conspiracy—remain unknown.”

This legal action is completely separate from the criminal case against Davis, who is currently imprisoned at Nevada’s High Desert State Prison due to jailhouse fight convictions. His trial is scheduled to begin on August 10, 2026.

Prosecutors believe that Davis was in the white Cadillac that pulled up next to Shakur’s car on September 7, 1996, near the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and hit him four times with gunfire. He has pleaded not guilty.

But in his own memoir, Compton Street Legend, Davis bragged about his involvement with the crime. “Tupac made an erratic move and began to reach down beneath his seat,” Davis wrote, describing the moment his car pulled up alongside the rapper. “It was the first and only time in my life that I could relate to the police command. ‘Keep your hands where I can see them.’ Instead, Pac pulled out a strap, and that’s when the fireworks started. One of my guys from the back seat grabbed the Glock and started bustin’ back.”

Taylor Swift Was Inspired to Write ‘Elizabeth Taylor’ After a Drive With Travis Kelce

Taylor Swift can truly find inspiration anywhere she goes. In the past, she’s shared how her neighbors’ love story and movies informed her early songwriting. Now, in a new interview with The New York Times Magazine, the superstar went deep on how her songwriting process has evolved in her two decades in the music industry.

“There are so many different ways that a song begins in my world,” Swift said. She cited the latest single, “Elizabeth Taylor,” from her most recent LP The Life of a Showgirl as an example of when a song “comes as if from nowhere.”

Metallica Prep Fully Loaded ‘ReLoad’ Box Set Reissue for This Summer

A year ahead of the album’s 30th anniversary, Metallica will release a super deluxe “ReIssue” of their seventh album, ReLoad. As with previous box sets, the ReLoad collection, out June 26, will come fully loaded (pun intended) with 15 CDs and four DVDs filled with live recordings, rough mixes of songs, and songwriting demos. (The original album will be in there, as well.)

The “Bad Seed” to its 1996 predecessor, Load, the album found Metallica continuing their quest to simplify their sound as they moved away from thrash metal to explore hard rock, punk, and blues influences. Highlights from ReLoad include the punk-ish “Fuel,” which is still a set list staple; an eerie duet with Marianne Faithfull, “The Memory Remains”; a sequel to the Black Album hit “The Unforgiven”; and the snaky “Carpe Diem Baby.”

A 21-year-old Austrian man pleaded guilty Tuesday to plotting an ISIS-inspired attack on Taylor Swift’s three sold-out Eras Tour shows in Vienna in August 2024.

On the opening day of his trial in Wiener Neustadt, Austria, the defendant — identified in court only as Beran A. under the nation’s privacy rules — also admitted to belonging to a terror cell. However, he pleaded not guilty to separate charges tied to planned attacks across the Middle East, according to the BBC.

NBA YoungBoy Fans Turn Movie Theaters Into Concerts for ‘American YoungBoy’

NBA YoungBoy’s sold-out arena tour last year solidified the rapper’s place as a leader of his generation. Clips of packed-out venues filled with screaming young fans spread like wildfire on social media, as YoungBoy defied the ongoing gloom around hip-hop touring by grossing more than $69 million across 42 arena shows. Fittingly, the Baton Rouge-born rapper just dropped a tour documentary, American YoungBoy, allowing fans to relive the excitement.

Even with the weekend’s crowded field — including the box-office juggernaut Michael — YoungBoy’s film landed at Number 10 on the domestic weekend chart, while only playing in 583 theaters. Directed by Nico Ballesteros, who notably helmed the Ye documentary In Whose Name, YoungBoy’s film is packed with concert footage, behind-the-scenes production moments, and glimpses of the rapper’s home and family life between shows. NBA YoungBoy is also listed among the documentary’s producers alongside Patrick Hughes, Antoine Banks, and Kyle Claiborne.
