‘Trap’: M. Night Shyamalan’s Daughter Saleka (as Lady Raven) Shares First Song From Dad’s New Film

Saleka, the R&B-singing daughter of director M. Night Shyamalan, has shared the song “Release” as Lady Raven, the pop star she portrays in her dad’s upcoming cat-and-mouse serial killer movie Trap.

In the film, Josh Hartnett plays a father/murderer who, with his young daughter, attends a Lady Raven concert, only to find out the police know the serial killer dubbed “the Butcher” is in attendance and have concocted the titular “trap” to catch him.

Saleka — whose music previously appeared on the soundtracks for her father’s Servant and Old —penned 14 original songs from Trap, including the piano ballad “Release,” which is the first Saleka-as-Lady Raven track released from the film, out August 9. Trap also marks Saleka’s first time appearing in one of M. Night Shyamalan’s films, though he has directed one of her music videos.

“Am I safer?/Hiding from the damage done/Is it braver?/To fight back or let it come,” Saleka’s pop star sings on the track. “I reach for nothing/Cry tears for something that never will come my way/Can I keep the love but release us from the pain?”

Along with Hartnett and Saleka, Trap also stars Ariel Donoghue, Hayley Mills, and Allison Pill. “Release” also features in the latest preview for the movie:

Hear U2’s Joyous New Single ‘Street of Dreams’ From Upcoming Studio Album

Two months after teasing their new song with a video shoot on a crowded street in Mexico City, U2 have dropped “Street of Dreams,” the leadoff single from their upcoming studio album, slated for release before the end of the year. The joyful, anthemic song was produced by their longtime collaborator Jacknife Lee.

The “Street of Dreams” video was shot when the band were in Mexico City to attend the Street Child World Cup Finals Tournament at Parque Ecológico Lago de Texcoco. They filmed near the Plaza Santo Domingo in the middle of a rainstorm, and were invited onto an apartment balcony by a family after the band’s generator failed in the rain.

Green Day are back with a rollicking new song, “I’m Never Gonna R.I.P.,” which will appear on the soundtrack for the band’s upcoming coming-of-age comedy, Nimrods.

“I’m Never Gonna R.I.P.” harkens back to the earliest days of rock & roll with its “Rock Around the Clock”-style groove, but the crunchy guitar tones and bratty, invincible lyrics are pure Green Day. “The devil’s on my tail but he’s chasing a ghost,” Billie Joe Armstrong wails before launching into a final chorus: “I’m never gonna R.I.P/I’m never gonna R.I.P/Might go down in history cause/I ain’t ever gonna R.I.P.”
