Sturgill Simpson’s latest album as Johnny Blue Skies, Mutiny After Midnight, is a disco-fried country rock meditation on all things sex and politics. It offers up the theory that sex is the cure for all that ails us, as individuals and as a society, and does so with genuine sincerity, but also lots of freaky little jokes and one-liners. One of the funniest appears on “Make America Fuk Again,” the album’s opener and thesis statement, in which Simpson drawls, “I’m a sensitive boy when push comes to shove/I got that Hunter Biden energy/I’ll make a hooker fuck around and fall in love.”

There are, of course, plenty of people with the notorious stature of former President Joe Biden’s son — whose infamy is very much rooted in that seedy pit of sex and politics — who probably wouldn’t take kindly to such a shoutout. But Hunter Biden is not that kind of guy. He’s a huge Sturgill fan, and considers his place in “Make America Fuk Again” an honor.

Biden praised Simpson as “the greatest singer songwriter out there right now” on X, Tuesday, where he’s been posting up a storm lately. (This was an unprompted response to someone highlighting the “Hunter Biden energy” lyric after Simpson finally made Mutiny After Midnight available to stream.)

And Biden’s no bandwagon fan either. “I’ve been obsessed with his music and message since Metamodern Sounds in Country Music,” he continued. “’Turtles All the Way Down’ is one of my favorite songs ever.”

He went on to praise Simpson’s rendition of Nirvana’s “In Bloom” as maybe “the best cover of any cover ever,” and name-checked Simpson’s excellent, and underrated, 2019 scuzz-rock album, Sound & Fury, and its accompanying anime movie. The album came out, Biden said, “in the early days of my recovery” and “it played in the background as I painted almost everyday.”

As for the shoutout in “Make America Fuk Again,” Biden called it, “By far the coolest thing to ever happen. Sturgill is my favorite.”

‘Billboard’ Charts Definitively Prove Everybody Loves Paul McCartney

Paul McCartney‘s latest solo album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, has landed here, there, and everywhere on Billboard‘s latest chart returns, mostly at Number One. While the LP, which contains the singles “Days We Left Behind” and “Home to Us,” bowed at Number Five on the Billboard 200, which tabulates an album’s popularity with a combination of sales and “album-equivalent” streaming units, the trade mag reports that it landed at Number One on its Top Album Sales, Vinyl Albums, and Indie Store Album Sales charts.

McCartney managed this week’s feat by earning 63,000 album equivalent units in the U.S. for the week ending June 4, Billboard reports. The album’s sales, meanwhile, reached 59,500, of which 32,000 were vinyl records.

T.I. and Tiny are headed back to court for a fourth trial against dollmaker MGA Entertainment, this time hoping to claw back some of the $53.6 million in punitive damages that a judge stripped from their eye-popping $71 million jury win.

The new trial, set to begin June 23, will focus on punitive damages only. The rapper, born Clifford Harris Jr., and his wife, Tameka “Tiny” Harris, are expected to testify, their lawyer tells Rolling Stone. At a hearing on Monday, the judge overseeing the case said the proceeding should last about three days, with eight jurors selected.

Terminator?’ You think this is going to go sentient and the next thing you know Ozzy is going to launch the nukes?”

A civil lawsuit that accused DaBaby of starting a brawl with his ex-girlfriend DaniLeigh’s brother inside a bowling alley has been settled, according to a notice filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday.

Brandon Curiel, who goes by the stage name Brandon Bill$, submitted a notice of settlement for the entire case, which had named DaBaby, the Zeus Network, a security company, and a bowling alley among the defendants in the legal dispute, which was scheduled to head to trial in October.

Talay Riley, Songwriter for Dua Lipa, Britney Spears, H.E.R., Dead at 35

The singer-songwriter Talay Riley, who wrote for artists like Dua Lipa, Britney Spears, and H.E.R., died in a stabbing in East London last week. He was 35.

According to a statement from the Metropolitan Police, Riley (real name Mark “Yinka” Orabiyi), was found in a garden with stab wounds around 9 a.m. local time last Friday, June 5. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim in the stabbing attack, a man in his 20s, sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
