It’s the Lainey Wilson Revue in New Video for ‘Hang Tight Honey’

It’s the Lainey Wilson Revue in New Video for ‘Hang Tight Honey’

Lainey Wilson leans into the vintage vibes of music revues in the new video for “Hang Tight Honey,” a rambunctious travelogue clip that follows the country star and her band through a performance and on the road.

The video has two main setups. The first casts Wilson as a Sixties-style crooner in a blue pantsuit and hair to the heavens, placing her on the stage of a TV variety show where cameras capture a whole lot of shimmying. The second vignette showcases a more true-to-life Wilson in her typical regalia of cowboy hat and hip-hugging bell bottoms. But even those scenes appear filtered and faded to underscore the throwback aesthetic.

Other segments take place on what appears to be one of Willie Nelson’s former tour buses: There’s a bus-window placard that reads “On the Road Again.” The video ends with a teasing “To Be Continued…” that presumably will connect to Wilson’s music video for another new song, “4x4xU,” premiering July 4 at 1 p.m. ET.

With elements of her own autobiography, “Hang Tight Honey,” the second track to be released from Wilson’s upcoming new album, Whirlwind, is an upbeat blast of country soul that serves to reassure her lover that she’ll be home from the road soon, and with a pocket full of money to boot. (In one scene in the video, she’s in a hotel room with her cash, making it rain.)

Wilson is currently on the road, where she’s been using “Hang Tight Honey” to kick off her shows. On Sunday, she and her band opened for the Rolling Stones at Soldier Field in Chicago, and Wilson later joined Mick Jagger onstage to sing “Dead Flowers.”

Wilson’s Whirlwind will be released Aug. 23 and features a collaboration with Miranda Lambert, along with the previously released track “Country’s Cool Again.”

Courtney Love to Dave Grohl: ‘Just Say We’re Cool’

Courtney Love sat down for a sprawling conversation with Billy Corgan that covered everything from their shared hate of Kim Gordon to Marlon Brando, who the Hole lead singer thought was her grandfather for years. Toward the end of the nearly two-hour chat, the topic turned to Love and Dave Grohl‘s extremely rocky relationship dating back to the Nirvana days when she dated (and married) the band’s frontman, the late Kurt Cobain.

When discussing fellow friends and musicians speaking ill of them in the media during Corgan’s podcast The Magnificent Others, Love brought up Grohl, who she appeared to make a truce with in 2014 when Nirvana was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “Come out with it and just say we’re cool,” said Love, referencing Grohl. “Be man enough to man up, because you’re the Uberman. [You have] all the straight males and we’re cool, but you won’t say it because you’re afraid you’ll lose your audience. You’re afraid it’ll affect your relationship with literal Paul McCartney.” In 2014, Love criticized a 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy benefit concert performance between the surviving members of Nirvana and Paul McCartney, saying (among other things) that she was not “not amused” by the Beatles member’s involvement.
