“They said to me, you will never come back to the United States of America,” dancehall and reggae maven Buju Banton told the sold-out crowd at Long Island’s UBS Arena on the steamy evening of July 14. “I said to them, lets see what God will do.” Banton took the stage in New York for the first time since 2008 and in the U.S. for the first time since 2011, the year that he was found guilty of federal drug crimes. He served seven years in a Georgia prison before being released and deported to his native Jamaica in 2018. Earlier this year, he was granted a visa to return to America, and over the course of a mid-July weekend, he received a hero’s welcome with two back to back shows at the 18,500-capacity venue. Rolling Stone was there for the electric reunion concert, dubbed “Long Walk to Freedom – N.Y.”

David Lee Roth, Alex Van Halen to Reunite… for a TED Talk

More than a decade after Van Halen‘s last performance and six years after the death of guitarist Eddie Van Halen, the band’s David Lee Roth and Alex Van Halen are reuniting … improbably for a TED Talk. The event, part of TEDxFargo, will be moderated by painter Robert Vargas at Fargo, North Dakota’s fittingly named Brewhalla on Thursday. Originally, the event was to feature only Vargas and Van Halen, but Roth seems to have been made available after canceling a run of tour dates. The last time the two were in public together was 2015.

Tickets are available for those who want to attend it live (Vargas notes, however, the event will be “remote live, with the three of us in the same room”), but don’t feel like you’re missing out. “The filming is taking place this week and will be posted on YouTube/TedxFargo platforms in a few weeks for the public to view for all time,” the official announcement on Instagram promises.

Tom Morello Previews New Solo Album With 'Anti-Fascist' Rock Song 'Date Night'

Tom Morello will release a new album, Everyone Gets Everything They Want, on Sept. 25 via Mom + Pop Music. It features production by Tyler Smyth, Carl Restivo, Zakk Cervini, Dan Carey, and Sam Nelson Harris, and guest appearances from Serj Tankian, Kneecap, and Beartooth, as well as Morello’s son Roman Morello.

The musician previewed the LP with song “Date Night,” which recounts the true story of three young Dutch girls who served as spies, saboteurs, and assassins against the Nazis during World War II. The young women acted as underground assassins, seducing Nazi officers, luring them into the woods and killing them.

Without Bernie Taupin‘s lyrics, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, The Tumbleweed Connection, Madman Across the Water, Captain Fantastic & The Brown Dirt Cowboy, and virtually the entire rest of the Elton John catalog would not exist. That’s why Elton literally handed him his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame statue when he was inducted in 1994, and personally welcomed him into the institution in 2023.

But throughout much of this time, the lyricist has also maintained a solo career that’s flown so far under the radar that many Elton John fans are unaware that Taupin’s own work even exists. And it hasn’t, in any meaningful way, since he disbanded his group Farm Dogs in 1998. His last solo album was 1987’s Tribe. Over the last couple of decades, he’s focused largely on his family, and his work with Elton John.

After years of frustration over leaked music, Ariana Grande is taking the issue to court.

According to Billboard, the Grammy-winning artist filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles court Monday and claimed that anonymous hackers stole unreleased music, photos, and video footage that are “part of her personal and professional creative process and that are not intended for public consumption.” She alleged they targeted her photographers and producers to gain access to the materials, then sold it “on the dark web” for large sums of money.

Case Against D4vd, Singer Accused of Murdering Teen, Will Proceed to Trial

A Los Angeles judge ruled Monday that prosecutors had presented sufficient evidence for the musician D4vd, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke, to stand trial for the murder of Celeste Rivas Hernandez when she was 14 years old.

“It appears to me, for the purposes of preliminary hearing, the people have met their burden of proof on all charges,” Judge Charlaine Olmedo ruled. “I order that Mr. Burke be held to answer.” Burke’s re-arraignment has been set for August 31st.
