Professional football player Marc-Antoine Dequoy is stepping away from the game on his own terms.

The Montréal Alouettes safety announced his retirement Monday, closing the book on a five-season CFL career spent entirely in his hometown colours. At 31, and with free agency looming, Dequoy chose to walk away to focus on his family. "There was a genuine desire to return, and we had an agreement on the table, but after discussing it with my loved ones late into the night, I realized my body was no longer ready for that kind of sacrifice."

Drafted 14th overall by Montreal in 2020, Dequoy’s path to the CFL was anything but linear. The league’s cancelled season that year pushed him briefly toward the NFL, where he attended the Green Bay Packers’ rookie mini-camp, before he finally suited up for the Alouettes in 2021. What followed was a steady rise into one of the most reliable Canadian defensive backs in the league.

Over 73 regular-season games, Dequoy became a fixture in Montreal’s secondary, combining size, speed, and instincts. He earned CFL all-star honours in 2023 and 2024, helped anchor the defence during the Alouettes’ 2023 Grey Cup run, and finished his career with 162 tackles, 12 interceptions, five forced fumbles, and three defensive touchdowns. Even in his final season, he remained impactful, recording a pick-six as Montreal returned to the Grey Cup in 2025.

Outside of his athletic performances, Dequoy became a worldwide star after the Als' Grey Cup win, when the Québécois, francophone player delivered an emotional speech. Noting that all the signage was in English and that the Canadian national anthem, written as Québécois separatist hymn before being appropriated and translated, was performed exclusively in English. "You can keep your English!", he sneered, creating a viral moment among Francophone sports fans worldwide.

A product of the Université de Montréal Carabins, Dequoy’s career has left a mark on the city. His departure leaves a notable void in Montreal’s defensive lineup.

Alex Murdaugh Murder Convictions Overturned Due to ‘Jury Interference’

South Carolina’s Supreme Court has overturned two murder convictions against Alex Murdaugh. The former attorney was sentenced to life in prison in 2023 after being found guilty of killing his wife and son on their family estate. At the time, the jury reached a unanimous decision. Now, the court has found Murdaugh did not receive a fair trial by an impartial jury due to interference from Colleton County Clerk of Court Rebecca Hill.

The court maintains that Hill “egregiously attacked Murdaugh’s credibility and his defense, thus triggering the presumption of prejudice, which the State was unable to rebut.” A juror in the case reported Hill telling the jury “not to be fooled” by evidence presented by Murdaugh’s attorneys ahead of his testimony. In an affidavit, the juror said, “I had questions about Mr. Murdaugh’s guilt but voted guilty because I felt pressured by the other jurors.” She also stated her decision was influenced by Hill’s comments.

I Grew Up With Jeffrey Epstein. Our Neighborhood Held Dark Secrets

There was danger outside the gate, we understood that. You could see it.

Precariously balanced on the very tip of Coney Island, Sea Gate, where I was raised, is surrounded by water on three sides and divided from the rest of the world by a two-story chain link fence. The fence, broken up only by two actual gates manned by guards, stretches three-quarters of a mile along 37th Street, from New York Harbor on the north side to the Atlantic Ocean on the south.

MrBeast Production Companies Sued Over Alleged Sexual Harassment, Emotional Distress

MrBeastYouTube and GameChanger 24/7, two production companies owned by YouTube star MrBeast, have been sued by a former employee, Lorrayne Mavromatis, who alleges having experienced sexual harassment, emotional distress, and pregnancy discrimination.

A federal complaint filed in North Carolina details the work culture under MrBeast, real name Jimmy Donaldson, in which Mavromatis claims she was “treated differently than her male counterparts,” including being dismissed from otherwise entirely male meetings. The documents suggest that this extended to the executive level and alleges that male employees exhibited “demeaning treatment towards women.” In one instance, the complaint alleges “male executives laughed and made jokes at the office about female contestants of BeastGames who complained they did not have access to feminine hygiene products and clean underwear while participating in the show.”

How Ibogaine Became the Darling of the Psychedelic Right

On a crisp November day in Aspen, Colorado, Rick Perry is stumping for iboga, a psychedelic shrub native to the Congo Basin rainforest in Central Africa known for producing powerful waking dreams. It is the heart of Bwiti, a centuries-old spiritual discipline primarily practiced in Gabon, and recently, the darling of the American psychedelic right. “ Take on the mantle of being the Johnny Appleseed of iboga, every one of you,” the former governor of Texas tells the audience while a delegation from Gabon watches impassively. “The medicine clearly showed me things that I’d never seen before,” Perry later tells me. “In the presence of God, I knew it — he loves me with great intensity. Pure white light.”
