South-African born, Canadian musician Orville Peck has shared “Already Gone,” the latest single from his forthcoming album Mule, while preparing to bring the project back to Canada this fall.
The upbeat new track finds the masked queer country star reflecting on the beginning of his time in rehab. Produced by Jay Joyce and co-written with Jacob Portrait, “Already Gone” pairs a rowdy, celebratory arrangement with lyrics that reveal the turmoil underneath.
The song arrives with a music video that leans into that contrast. Peck is shown navigating the realities of rehabilitation, from therapy sessions and medical tests to the routines of daily treatment. Noah Cyrus, Allison Russell and Cathy Cooper also make cameos in the video.
Due September 18 through Warner Records, Mule traces a year of addiction, recovery and rebuilding in chronological order. It comes as Peck revealed that he nearly died of an overdose last year. Rather than treating sobriety as a footnote, Peck makes it the foundation of an album that explores identity, relationships and the distance between his public persona and the person behind the mask.
Canadian fans will get several opportunities to experience the new material live. Peck’s Man Turned Mule Tour arrives in the country in November, with stops at HISTORY in Toronto on November 17, Hard Rock Ottawa on November 18 and MTELUS in Montréal on November 19. One dollar from every North American tour ticket will also be donated to The Trevor Project, supporting crisis intervention and suicide prevention services for LGBTQ+ young people.
