Charli XCX Flirts With Blowing Up Her Life in New Trailer for ‘Erupcja’
1-2 Special

Charli XCX’s acting career is erupting.

A new trailer for Erupcja — which means “eruption” in Polish — shows the Brat singer starring in a complicated relationship drama from director Pete Ohs.

The film, which hits theaters April 17, follows a couple (Charli XCX and Will Madden) whose romantic getaway to Poland is prolonged by a volcanic eruption. While waiting for flights to resume, Charli’s character Bethany flirts with the idea of blowing up her life by rekindling a romance with an old friend who owns a flower shop in Warsaw.

“A romantic vacation goes awry when a volcanic eruption strands Bethany (Charli XCX) and her soon-to-be fiancé, Rob (Will Madden) in Warsaw, Poland. Bethany takes the explosive event as a sign to ditch her baggage, reunite with childhood friend Nel (Lena Góra) and traipse across lofts, clubs and back alleys, all the while becoming entangled in an emotional web that challenges her sense of self,” a synopsis reads.

Playwright Jeremy O. Harris and actress Lena Góra, from HBO Max’s The Eastern Gate, also star in the 71-minute feature film. Alongside Ohs, all the movie’s actors had a hand in writing the script.

Originally premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, critics praised Charli’s performance. IndieWire film critic David Ehrlich wrote that Charli’s casting “adds a metatextual richness to the movie.” And Hollywood Reporter’s Jourdain Searles noted Charli gives a “standout performance” and possesses a “magnetic screen presence.”

Back in October 2024, Charli said she was drawn to the project because of the way Ohs “talked about making his films,” which “felt akin to making an album.”

“The chance meeting also felt equivalent to the conversational and spontaneous nature of his filmmaking,” she added. “Our processes felt linked in some kind of way and it felt right and exciting to pursue some kind of collaboration.”

Erupcja marks the latest film Charli has helmed. She premiered The Moment, a tongue-in-cheek mockumentary about her Brat summer, at last month’s Sundance Film Festival. She also stars in The Gallerist alongside Natalie Portman, Jenna Ortega, and Sterling K. Brown, and Olivia Wilde’s anticipated I Want Your Sex.

Michael Jackson Moonwalks to Stardom and Confronts His Dad in New Biopic Trailer

The official trailer for Antoine Fuqua’s long-in-the-works Michael Jackson biopic has arrived ahead of the film’s release on April 24.

The clip offers the most comprehensive look so far at Michael, which will feature Jaafar Jackson — the late star’s nephew — in the title role. While the previously-released Michael teaser appeared to offer a surprisingly upbeat and rosy view of Jackson’s life and career, this new trailer hints at some of turmoil underneath, while still stressing the King of Pop’s love of music and myriad achievements.

Bruce Willis Is Unaware He Has Dementia, His Wife Reveals

Bruce Willis “doesn’t know” he has frontotemporal dementia, his wife, Emma Heming Willis, revealed in a new interview released Wednesday (Jan. 28). “Bruce never, never tapped in, Heming Willis, 47, said on the Conversations With Cam podcast. “He never connected the dots that he had this disease, and I’m really happy about that. I’m really happy that he doesn’t know about it.”

Willis, 70, retired from acting in 2022 after being diagnosed with aphasia, a language disorder. His family later disclosed that his condition had progressed to frontotemporal dementia, or FTD. Heming Willis explained that her husband experiences a neurological phenomenon called anosognosia, in which the brain cannot recognize its own decline. “People think this might be denial, like they don’t want to go to the doctor because they’re like, ‘I’m fine, I’m fine,'” she told host Cameron Oaks Rogers. “Actually, it’s this anosognosia that comes into play. It’s not denial. It’s just that their brain is changing. This is a part of the disease.”

Courtney Love Sets the Record Straight

Courtney Love Sets the Record Straight

Courtney Love knows what you think about her. She’s heard the names you’ve called her as well as the praise you’ve heaped upon her, the spurious accusations and the salacious rumors, the questions about her sanity and well-being. She’s even watched some of the TikTok videos people have made that revolve around her, though she drew the line at one where she was allegedly getting sodomized by Satan. These kinds of things still affect her, Love admits. But she doesn’t have time for that negative shit now. Love has a batch of songs she’s writing, studio time she’s booked, a producer — Butch Walker — who’s there to give her the space and time to get back what Love calls her “sea legs.”

Still, the singer knows the stories and the histories that will follow her to her dying day, the ones that precede her when she walks into a room and linger like an expensive perfume or cigarette smoke when she exits it. Ms. Love would like to set the record straight. More than a few records, to be honest. And filmmakers Edward Lovelace and James Hall have turned on their cameras and handed her a mic so she can do just that.
