Emmy Nominations 2026: ‘Hacks’ and ‘The Pitt’ Lead

Recent winners Jeff Hiller and Liza Colón-Zayas will present the nominations for the 78th Primetime Emmys this morning

Emmy Nominations 2026: ‘Hacks’ and ‘The Pitt’ Lead

The nominees for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards are finally here.

Actors and recent Emmy winners Jeff Hiller and Liza Colón-Zayas revealed the nominees, while Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego hosted the show. The nominations ceremony was live-streamed starting at 11:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. PT.

Both Colón-Zayas and Hiller have won Emmys in the past couple of years. Colón-Zayas picked up the prize for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy for her turn in The Bear in 2024, while Hiller won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy for Somebody Somewhere in 2025.

As for who’s in the running at the Emmys this year, The Pitt will look to repeat its Outstanding Drama Series victory in 2025. But the medical drama will face competition from drama newcomers like Pluribus and Task, as well as other favorites like Slow Horses, Stranger Things, and The Diplomat.

Meanwhile, the race in the comedy categories is somewhat wide open since last year’s big winner, The Studio, hasn’t released a second season yet. That said, there are two likely frontrunners: Hacks, a previous Outstanding Comedy Series winner, which just aired its last season; and Widow’s Bay, the breakthrough Apple TV+ show that just wrapped its celebrated first season. Other likely contenders include The Bear, Only Murders in the Building, Shrinking, and Abbott Elementary.

And in limited series, the second season of Lee Sung Jin’s anthology series Beef will likely get a look, as will Ryan Murphy’s latest, Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette. Other favorites from the past year include DTF St. Louis, Half Man, The Beast in Me, and All Her Fault.

The 78th Emmy Awards will take place Sept. 14, with Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay serving as host.

The Legend of Cynthia Plaster Caster

Feb. 25, 1968. The Conrad Hilton Hotel in Chicago, Room 1628. Jimi Hendrix’s pants are on the floor, and Cynthia Albritton is ready. Along with her friend and helper, Marilyn, she carefully measures equal parts dental alginate powder and 70-degree water. Their friend Dianne, the “plater” — the young woman designated with arousing the subject — is going down on Hendrix, trying to get him to the edge.

When Albritton, Marilyn, and Dianne arrived downtown that afternoon, they weren’t sure they’d make it inside his suite, much less take off the 25-year-old guitar idol’s skintight bell-bottoms. They’d followed Hendrix and his band, the Experience, from the Civic Opera House, where they’d just played, to the Hilton, where they were staying. When Hendrix pulled up, they introduced themselves and flashed him a suitcase with their groupie collective’s name emblazoned in a white oval: The Plaster Casters of Chicago. They were there to immortalize his penis or “Hampton Wick” (a committed Anglophile, Albritton used Cockney slang whenever she could).

What Does JD Vance Believe?

What Does JD Vance Believe?

JD Vance has spent his adult life explaining himself to America and yet still can’t explain himself to himself. Communion is his second memoir and, theoretically, is about Vance’s conversion to Catholicism. However the crucial revelation does not occur in the Vatican or a French cathedral. No, it happens in a bleaker place: Hollywood, USA.

God had given me a unique perspective, and I learned a few things. The first is that the social competition I saw at Yale Law School replays itself all the way to the top. The Hollywood super-agent Ari Emanuel invited me to his pre-Oscar party. It was the best people-watching experience of my life. At one point in the night, someone motioned to a group entering the room and observed, “The p***y patrol”— the name our fellow guest used for Leonardo DiCaprio’s crew —“just arrived.” They caused a commotion, drank a lot, and departed before I could even catch a glimpse of Leo.

Jay-Z Knows the Past Still Pays

Jay-Z Knows the Past Still Pays

There’s a pleasant absurdity to the advertisements for JAŸ-Z30 that are currently found across New York’s subway tunnels. Their dramatic imagery — a stark black backdrop pierced through the center with a pair of hands, presumably Jay’s, fixed into the famous Roc diamond — invites a kind of religious authority that feels a touch ironic for anyone who’s old enough to remember all types of handwringing over those very hand symbols only a few years ago. And maybe that’s the point. By now, nostalgia’s grip extends layers deep. So much so that you could find yourself waiting for the train, reminiscing on the days when people still made jokes about the so-called Illuminati.

Did You Know These World Cup Players Also Make Music?

Did You Know These World Cup Players Also Make Music?

The World Cup is in full swing, with just a few more matches left before the quarterfinals. There have been plenty of feel-good stories and twists and upsets — Cape Verde’s Cinderella story, Norway’s stunning victory over Brazil, all of the controversy over Trump’s involvement in Folarin Balogun’s contentious red card. But in addition to these crazy moments and plots, what the World Cup does every four years is put a bright spotlight on the best soccer players in the world.

A lot of these athletes have had unexpected trajectories and remarkable biographies — even a surprising side hobby or two. This includes players who have hidden musical talents, or who have made careers moonlighting as singers, rappers, and musicians.

The Most WTF Guests at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Wedding

Taylor Swift officially got married to Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden this past weekend, and it sure seems like everyone the couple has ever met showed up at the wedding of the decade. A-list musicians, celebrities, sports players, and Hollywood stars made up the 1,000-person guest list, proving just how connected the superstar and NFL player are in their respective circles. Sure, Swift admitted that she was basically inviting “anyone that I’ve ever talked to” last year, but we didn’t think she meant it literally.

Turns out, she did. Swift and Kelce seemed to invite some of their most random acquaintances, forcing people to figure out how celebrities like Simone Biles or Machine Gun Kelly knew the bride and groom. But from old foes to controversial executives, here’s a handful of attendees that still have us scratching our heads.
