Promoters are offering refunds to Wu-Tang Clan fans after four members were absent from their Australian shows.
Billed as the “Wu-Tang Forever: The Final Chamber” farewell tour featuring all surviving members, fans were baffled when Method Man, Raekwon, Cappadonna, and Young Dirty Bastard (son of the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard), didn’t show to the first of three Australian shows in Brisbane on March 25. According to The Music Network, the promoter, Ticketek, has been forced to issue refunds.
As Rolling Stone Australia reports, Wu-Tang announced via Instagram stories that Method Man was unable to appear, but the other three members’ absence was unaddressed. Following Brisbane, ahead of the two remaining shows in Melbourne (March 27) and Sydney (March 28), Ticketek issued a statement to fans.
“We want to make fans aware that due to unforeseen circumstances, a couple of members will be unable to join the remaining tour dates in Melbourne and Sydney,” the statement read. “Wu-Tang Clan will be performing and bringing everything that has made them one of the most iconic live acts in hip-hop history.”
The Austalian shows follow Wu-Tang’s European leg of their farewell tour. They hit North America last summer, and were nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last month — their first time being on the ballot. The tour will hit Yokohama, Japan on May 24 and return to the U.S. later this year.
“Wu-Tang Clan has shown the world many chambers throughout our career; this tour is called The Final Chamber,” RZA said upon the trek announcement. “This is a special moment for me and all my Wu brothers to run around the globe together one more time and spread the Wu swag, music, and culture. Most importantly to touch our fans and those who have supported us throughout the years.”
