Mel Gibson’s 2004 blockbuster The Passion of the Christ is returning to theaters in September, ahead of the director-actor’s follow-up, The Resurrection of the Christ: Part One.

The rerelease will be in theaters from Sept. 10 to Sept. 17, and has been remastered with 4K resolution. Its return to movie houses serves as a precursor to Gibson’s sequel, which will arrive in theaters beginning May 6, 2027, via Lionsgate. The new film will be executive-produced by Cedar Hill and by Mike Ilitch Jr. Productions, The Hollywood Reporter notes.

The Passion of the Christ became the highest-grossing Christian film and the highest-grossing independent film of all time. In January 2025, Gibson discussed his plans for a sequel with Joe Rogan on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, saying he had been working on co-writing the follow-up with his brother and the screenwiter Randall Wallace over a seven-year period.

“My brother and I and Randall all sort of congregated on this,” the actor said. “So there’s some good heads put together, but there’s some crazy stuff. And I think in order to really tell the story properly you have to really start with the fall of the angels, which means you’re in another place, you’re in another realm. You need to go to hell. You need to go to Sheol.”

He also confirmed to Rogan that he planned to recast Jim Caviezel as Jesus of Nazareth, and described the upcoming film as “very ambitious.”

“Bringing it back to theaters in a stunning new restoration allows longtime audiences to experience it in an entirely new way while inviting a new generation to discover it in theaters for the very first time,” Kevin Grayson, president of worldwide distribution for the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said in a statement on Wednesday. “This also marks the beginning of the journey toward The Resurrection of the Christ: Part One, one of the most ambitious and anticipated faith films ever brought to the screen.”

Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez Crush Out as Aliens Crash Out in Animated ‘Not Alone’ Trailer

Timothée Chalamet’s Joe and Selena Gomez’s Fran’s meet-cute over Joe’s clumsiness takes a wild, alien-filled turn in the new trailer for Not Alone.

The trailer for the animated film made by Illumination, the folks behind the Minions and Sing franchises, starts off peacefully enough: Introverted rocket mechanic Joe wakes up on a peaceful street with colorful houses. He drops the needle on a turntable that plays David Bowie’s classic “Space Oddity,” which serves as some foreshadowing as it soundtracks the rest of the clip.

Blake Lively’s Lawyers Just Sent Justin Baldoni an $8 Million Bill

A judge decided earlier this month that Justin Baldoni must pay Blake Lively’s legal fees, now that the stars of It Ends With Us have dropped their litigation against each another. Now, he’s getting the bill. A legal filing obtained by Rolling Stone reveals that Lively claims she’s entitled to a little more than $8 million. Specifically, Lively wants Baldoni to pay “reasonable” attorney fees totaling $7,495,526.87 and additional costs that come to $539,514.01.

It turns out lawyering is expensive, as the filing’s charts, tables, footnotes, exhibits, and appendixes explain (and yes, because they’re lawyers, they billed for the time they spent creating the filing and its miscellany). Apparently Baldoni is getting something of a deal, since the filing notes “all time billed to Lively reflects 10 and 15 percent discounts from [her legal teams Wilkie, Farr & Gallagher and Manatt, Phelps & Phillips’] standard rates.” It seems like the only winners after all this litigation are the lawyers.

Harvey Weinstein Prosecutors Won’t Seek Fourth Rape Trial

Prosecutors in New York won’t seek a fourth trial for rape charges against Harvey Weinstein, which were overturned by one jury and deadlocked by two others. A judge subsequently dismissed the third-degree rape charges on Thursday, The New York Times reports.

At issue were actress Jessica Mann’s claims that Weinstein had forced himself on her in 2013. A jury in 2020 had convicted Weinstein, but a judge later overturned the verdict. Juries at retrials in 2025 and 2026 could not reach unanimous verdicts on the charges, ending the proceedings in mistrials.

Why Club Chalamet Is at the Center of Paris Fashion Week Drama

Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie has been one of the most anticipated guests at the fashion presentations, with fans and paparazzi lining up for hours in the Parisian heat for a glimpse at the beloved newcomer. But when Storrie departed his hotel on Tuesday to attend the Saint Laurent Men’s Spring/Summer 2027 show, the power of stan culture erupted into surprising violence. And one woman at the center of the drama? A 59-year-old writer and professional stan named Simone Cromer, better known online for her now-viral handle, Club Chalamet.

Cromer, a longtime fan of Dune and Marty Supreme star Timothée Chalamet, started her Chalamet focused fan account in 2018. But in 2023, when Chalamet began dating Kylie Jenner, Cromer became a polarizing figure in online spaces. After the couple made their first public appearance, Cromer hosted a TwitterSpaces for close to an hour, claiming the relationship was a fraud, that Jenner was emotionally and intelligently beneath Chalamet, and sightings of the two were causing Chalamet fans intense emotional distress. It gave her public platform, taking her from around 3,000 followers to over 40,000 — even nabbing her a Wall Street Journal profile in 2025. But Cromer also took heat from other fans, who accused her of instability, obsession, and dangerous behavior — claims she continues to categorically deny. (Cromer did not respond to Rolling Stone’s request for comment).
