Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger is adding his first television credit to his résumé with a role in I Kill the Bear, the new Crave comedy series created by Letterkenny and Shoresy star Jared Keeso.

The six-episode series premiered today, November 6, featuring an unusually large collection of Canadian celebrities, including Georges St-Pierre, Kristin Kreuk, Jonathan Torrens, Scott Thompson, Adrian Holmes and Sarah-Maude Beauchesne. Kroeger is among the principal cast members, playing a character called The Son of Grizzly Adams.

I Kill the Bear centres on the Thibaults, a fourth-generation Franco-Ontarian family that has spent a century training and handling bears for film productions. After 100 years in the business, the family decides its latest production will be its last. Having spent most of their lives isolated in the wilderness, the Thibaults find themselves navigating an unfamiliar Hollywood environment. The Son of Grizzly Adams, Kroeger's character, is a rival wrangler with unconventional work methods.

''If you think the lead singer of Nickelback would be a good time on a comedy show, you are correct,'' said the series' creator of Kroeger's involvement in the show.

Keeso stars alongside Georges St-Pierre, Beauchesne and Torrens as members of the Thibault family. The supporting ensemble also includes Letterkenny and Shoresy alumni Dylan Playfair, Eliana Jones and Frederick Roy.

The guest cast features several other recognizable Canadian names, including Jann Arden, Brent Butt, Kim Coates, Tricia Helfer, Melanie Scrofano, Michelle Mylett, Ben Mulroney and George Stroumboulopoulos.

‘How Are You Supposed to Have Sex with a Wicker Dick? I Wanted to See’

When indie film distributor Black Bear released the first trailer for Wicker, it hit social media timelines with a bang. Based on the short story The Wicker Husband by Ursula Wills-Jones, the film follows a small village fisherwoman (Olivia Colman) who convinces a local basket weaver (Peter Dinklage) to build her a husband out of wicker (Alexander Skarsgård). Fans, naturally, went a bit feral over the scenes of Colman and a basket-ified Skarsgård consummating their marriage so rapturously they break the bed. Eventually, a common joke emerged: “Will this be available in 4DX?”
