Power Trip have released a pair of new songs, “Precinct 3” and “Scavenger,” the Dallas thrash band’s first new music since the death of singer Riley Gale in 2020.

In 2024, the group’s founding four musicians — guitarist Blake Ibanez, guitarist Nick Stewart, bassist Chris Whetzel, and drummer Chris Ulsh — confirmed plans to reunite, enlisting singer Seth Gilmore for a series of live shows that year.

Those shows ultimately led to the group returning to the studio with Gilmore, and work on the band’s third album began. “Precinct 3” and “Scavenger” are the first offerings from that 2027-bound LP, the band’s first album since 2017’s Nightmare Logic and first with Gilmore on vocals.

“When we were writing this, we wondered what Riley would have wanted to write about,” Ibanez said in a statement. “So once we decided on that approach, it honestly came really easily– the lyrics were flowing and it just felt like the right way to kick off this new chapter and honor him. I think he would have been stoked to see it come to fruition.”

Power Trip recorded their new album at Texas’ Empire Sound studio with producer Jacob Hansen. “Recording worked out really well for us because [Hansen] has the knowledge of making these big records, but also comes from the late 80’s extreme metal underground,” Ulsh added. “We’re tough to please because we want something that sounds current, but most importantly we want it to sound like us, however that comes out.”

The band’s third album arrives next spring on their new label Blue Grape Music, which will also release a seven-inch of the “Precinct 3” single in a variety of formats. Ahead of the new LP, Power Trip will play three more shows in 2026, including support on Slayer’s Reign of Blood 40th Anniversary show in Mexico City on October 21 and a slot at their hometown Sick New World Texas on October 24.
