Wet Leg Are So Julia With Impromptu Charli XCX ‘360’ Cover

Wet Leg Are So Julia With Impromptu Charli XCX ‘360’ Cover

Wet Leg brought Brat to Truck Festival 2024 with an impromptu cover of Charli XCX’s single “360.” The indie rock band headed by Hester Chambers and Rhian Teasdale slotted their own unique take on the record into their 11-track set list.

Teasdale led the performance while the rest of the band lent a thick bass line and thumping percussion to the track. In videos from the set, audience members who are also tapped into Brat Girl Summer can be heard shouting the lyrics back at the singer with a particular boost in volume during: “I’m everything I’m so Julia.”

The Charli single marked the only cover Wet Leg selected for their set. The rest of their performance featured popular singles and deep cuts like “Wet Dream,” “Chaise Lounge,” “Too Late Now,” and more. It wasn’t exactly the kind of rave-ready dance performance that’s defined the Brat era thus far, but their embracing of the record’s carefree spirit is what matters.

Brat has only become more pervasive as the summer has progressed. Music and memes from the album have become integral in everything from Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign to dissections of the current state of pop as its one-time avant-garde auteur moved from left of field to front and center.

“To have a truly good album campaign that doesn’t crumble when you scratch the surface, you have to be interested in theory,” Charli recently told Rolling Stone UK. “Obviously, it depends what kind of artist you are, but I think memorable albums are rooted in deep thought rather than just vibes, which to me is the biggest crime.”

Manon in ‘Positive Conversations’ With Label as Katseye Return Remains Unclear

When Katseye teased their upcoming song, “Pinky Up,” with a short clip on Thursday, April 2, fans were quick to point out that Manon Bannerman was nowhere to be found. Although some are holding out hope that she’d be featured in the full music video, others have noticed that Bannerman removed any mention of the girl group from her Instagram bio.

Amid mounting speculation that she won’t be returning following news of her temporary hiatus back in February, Bannerman reportedly sent fans a Weverse message later on Thursday. “Thank you so much for all the love and support you’ve been sending my way. I’m really grateful for the patience and kindness everyone has shown during this time,” she wrote, via Forbes. “HxG and I are having positive conversations and I feel supported. I’m happy and I’m healthy. I’ll share more soon. Thank you for always being there for me.”

Cardi B Will Judge New Yorkers’ Jingles for Zohran Mamdani’s Free 2-K Song Contest

Do you have the musical acumen and passion for toddler education to impress both Zohran Mamdani and Cardi B? The New York City mayor announced on Friday that Cardi B would judge a citywide competition of jingles, officially New York’s Best Childcare Jingle, written to promote Mamdani’s free childcare initiative for the Big Apple’s two-year-olds, which the administration is calling 2-K, similar to pre-K and 3-K for three-year-olds.

New Yorkers who think they have what it takes can submit a 15- or 30-second jingle to a special page of the NYC.gov website, which they must also post to their social media with the tags #NYC2KJingle and @nycmayor, to tell the world in a catchy and memorable way that the city will be offering free 2-K education in select neighborhoods in the fall. Once all the submissions are in on April 17, Cardi B will select five finalists, and New Yorkers will ultimately pick the winner.

Gucci Mane Allegedly Kidnapped, Robbed in ‘Armed Takeover’ by Pooh Shiesty and Big30, DOJ Says

Gucci Mane was allegedly kidnapped and robbed during a “coordinated armed takeover” of a Dallas music studio where fellow rapper Pooh Shiesty allegedly brandished an AK-style pistol and forced the rap mogul to sign a document releasing Shiesty from his recording contract, federal prosecutors said Thursday.

In a criminal complaint filed in Dallas federal court and obtained by Rolling Stone, prosecutors allege Sheisty, born Lontrell Williams Jr., “was upset with the terms of his [recording] contract” and set up a meeting with Mane, whose legal name is Radric Davis, to discuss the matter. The complaint identifies Mane by his initials, R.D., and describes him as the head of 1017 Records, the label that signed Williams Jr. in 2021.

Olivia Rodrigo Reveals New Album ‘You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love’

It’s been four long years since Olivia Rodrigo released a new album, but the wait for OR3 is over. You Seem Pretty Sad For a Girl So in Love, her third LP, will arrive on June 12 via Geffen Records.

Most notably, the album is not a four-letter title as fans expected, after her 2021 debut, Sour, and 2022’s Guts. In her newsletter, she wrote, “No matter how hard I try to write love songs they always come out laced with a little melancholy. I am so proud of this record and I can’t wait for you to hear it.” It’s available for preorder now.
