Laura Jane Grace and Her Partner Paris Talk to Their Soup in the Mississippi Medicals’ New Video

Timelines collide on the latest release from Laura Jane Grace, bringing together folks from her early Against Me! days, her new project, the Mississippi Medicals, and even her partner, Paris Campbell Grace.

The Medicals’ cover of Cleveland punk band the Sidekicks’ 2012 track “Baby, Baby” will appear on Red Scare Industries 20th anniversary compilation, 20 Years Of Dreaming And Scheming (out Sept. 6th), and we have the premiere of the music video right here.

Grace’s ties to Red Scare go way back, since its founder, Tobias Jeg, signed Against Me! to Fat Wreck Chords in 2002. She also played Jeg’s now legendary gig at Four Seasons Total Landscaping in 2021 after Rudy Giuliani mysteriously held a press conference at the Philly location in 2020.

“Toby has done a million solids over the years, starting with signing Against Me! and even just small acts of kindness,” Grace tells Rolling Stone. “He was the reason that I got the Four Seasons Landscaping gig. The Sidekicks were on Red Scare records and we did a full U.S. tour with them back in 2014. That’s my favorite one of their songs.”

Grace recorded the cover with her new band, the Medicals, which includes Paris, Drive-By Truckers’ Matt Patton, and the Ergs’ Mikey Erg; they have an EP on the way. “It’s been really fun and exciting and challenging and humbling,” Grace says of collaborating with her partner, who she married after a whirlwind romance at the end of 2023. “We recorded back in December in Mississippi at Matt’s studio. It was almost like a date before we got married. The four of us ended up recording six songs together. It was like a trial by fire.” We’ve been touring together all this year and it’s a lot of fun.”

The video also features a wink and a nod to Paris, who appears in the black-and-white affair with Grace. “I guess the concept was the idea of eating soup every day, only soup, and then it’s telling you messages,” Grace says. “So we were just going along with it, having fun. And it also tied together, being that, you know, it’s Campbell’s Soup, which is Paris’ maiden name.”

The video was produced, shot, and edited by Deanna Belos of Sincere Engineer at Grace and Paris’ Chicago home.

Concert Industry Is ‘Broken,’ Prosecutor Says as Live Nation-Ticketmaster Trial Begins

Federal prosecutors said Live Nation and Ticketmaster “illegally used their monopoly power to help themselves” instead of artists, fans, or venues during opening statements for the blockbuster antitrust trial.

The case, which has the potential to completely reshape the live-entertainment industry, officially kicked off Tuesday, March 3, following jury selection yesterday. The federal government has accused Live Nation of using its network of venues to cajole artists into using its promotion services, while also forcing venues to sign exclusive, long-term contracts with Ticketmaster (which it acquired in 2010).

Sharon Osbourne Says Ozzfest Will ‘Absolutely’ Return with Late Black Sabbath Singer’s Blessing

After a near-decade-long hiatus, Sharon Osbourne says Ozzfest is “absolutely” in the works for next year, saying the Black Sabbath frontman, Ozzy Osbourne, gave his blessing for the event to continue on in his memory before his death last July.

“Yeah, we’re gonna do it,” Osbourne said last month during a sit-down talk at the MIDEM 2026 conference in Cannes, France. “The last one we did was 2018. It was just a month before Ozzy got sick, and that was at the Forum in L.A. And there [were] no plans to stop it. We were still gonna do it, but Ozzy couldn’t. And Ozzy and I would talk about it, and he’d say, ‘Do you think Ozzfest would work without me?’ And I’m, like, ‘Yeah, it’s a brand. It will work without you.’ And he said, ‘We should do it.’”

Justin Timberlake Files Petition to Block Release of DWI Arrest Video

Justin Timberlake has filed a petition to stop the public release of body camera footage from his traffic stop and arrest on June 18, 2024 after he allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign in the Southampton village of Sag Harbor, New York. The filing arrives after the singer pleaded guilty to one count of driving while impaired months following the arrest.

In the request filed on March 2 and obtained by Rolling Stone, Timberlake’s attorneys state that the footage depicts the Grammy winner in “an acutely vulnerable state during a roadside encounter with law enforcement, capturing intimate details of Petitioner’s physical appearance, demeanor, speech, and conduct,” adding that footage also includes Timberlake during hours of confinement after the arrest.
