Billie Eilish Directed a Dreamy, Surrealistic Video for ‘Chihiro’

Billie Eilish Directed a Dreamy, Surrealistic Video for ‘Chihiro’

In the video Billie Eilish directed herself for “Chihiro,” the singer explores empty hallways with closed doors, singing “Open up the door, can you open up the door?” Eventually, she finds another person, played by Nat Wolff, and their interactions are sometimes aggressive, sometimes affectionate, and sometimes quixotic since he can disappear. For Eilish, it’s a surrealistic representation of a dream state — rendered all the more obvious by the imagery of her plunging into an endless ocean of water, similar to the cover of Hit Me Hard and Soft, the album “Chihiro” comes from.

Eilish recently told Rolling Stone how Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away — and its main character, Chihiro — inspired the song and Hit Me Hard and Soft. “The song is loosely based off of that movie, which is one of my favorites,” Eilish said. “It’s kind of from her point of view, mixed with mine. The visuals in that movie are some of the best ever — all that Studio Ghibli shit is unbelievable. There’s all those visuals of the train in the water after the flood, and it literally looks like an ocean with a train track. I had just watched Spirited Away and Finneas had made that beat. I love that movie. I’ve seen it so many times.”

Eilish, who was recently on the cover of Rolling Stone, will begin North American tour dates in support of the album in late September. Her tour dates run through mid-December. Hit Me Hard and Soft debuted at Number Two on the Billboard 200, just behind Taylor Swift’s Tortured Poets Department, and it was Eilish’s best-ever week for sales.

Pooh Shiesty Denied Bail in Gucci Mane Kidnapping Case: ‘Credible Evidence Presented’

Rapper Pooh Shiesty was denied bail on Wednesday following his arrest on charges he brandished an AK-style pistol and forced Gucci Mane to sign a contract release while the label executive was allegedly cornered inside a Dallas recording studio.

Shiesty, born Lontrell Williams Jr., was remanded to a Texas jail after a judge determined he posed a flight risk, according to a court order signed Wednesday and obtained by Rolling Stone. The judge found that Williams qualified for detention because the charges involve the alleged use of a firearm and carry a potential sentence of life in prison. The court also found that Williams was on home detention at the time of the alleged incident and did not have permission to be in Dallas.

50 Cent to Tell His Life Story in New Docuseries

A new documentary series chronicling the life and career of 50 Cent is headed to Hulu, marking a notable collaboration between the rapper-turned-producer and the streaming giant.

The untitled, three-part series will be directed by Mandon Lovett and produced by The Intellectual Property Corporation (IPC) — known for projects like Rap Caviar Presents —alongside Jackson’s G-Unit Film & Television banner, Deadline announced Tuesday. Patrick Altema is set to serve as showrunner, where he’s also an executive producer alongside Jackson, Lovett, and IPC’s Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman.

The partnership underscores Hulu’s continued investment in music-driven storytelling and Jackson’s expanding presence in premium television.

Fif first teased the announcement on April 1, sharing a social media post claiming that the deal with the streaming platform is worth $75 million. “HULU wins in a bidding war against STARZ, NETFLIX, and APPLE for my new doc,” the rapper wrote in a post on X, along with a supposed TMZ graphic deeming the partnership as “the biggest doc deal in years.”

However, no such story was reported by TMZ or any other outlet at the time, leading many to believe the post was an April Fools joke, given the timing of the announcement. Hulu did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the financial details of the agreement.

The forthcoming series adds to Jackson’s growing résumé in Hollywood, where he has successfully transitioned from music into film and television.

Ye, Snoop Dogg, and Other Artists Who’ve Been Denied Entry into the U.K.

Fans hoping to catch Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, perform at this year’s Wireless Festival face another disappointing moment from their favorite, controversial rapper. On Tuesday (April 7), organizers of the annual event announced the cancellation of the three-night event after the Chicago native was denied entry into the sovereign state.

The decision to bar Ye was made by the United Kingdom’s Home Office and was based on the grounds that his appearance would not be “conducive to the public good.” The festival’s top organizer, Melvin Benn, defended the motion to book the rapper in the first place.

Ella Langley: Chilling All the Way to the Top of the Charts

When country-music fans hit play on Ella Langley’s second album, Dandelion, out on Friday, the first song they’ll hear won’t sound anything like Langley’s pop-crossover smash “Choosin’ Texas.” The 26-year-old from Hope Hull, Alabama, chose to open Dandelion with a centuries-old folk song, “Froggy Went a-Courtin’.”

“The first two songs I ever learned how to sing were ‘Amazing Grace’ and ‘Froggy Went a-Courtin’,” says Langley, calling during a rare moment of downtime in what has already been a transformative year for the singer and songwriter. “Whenever we do family reunions, everyone would gather around the piano and sing ‘Froggy.’ This record is so personal to me in the way of trying to give you a little insight into not only me, but Alabama, growing up in the country with these old type of songs.”

How Taylor Swift’s ‘Reputation’ Tour Helped Shape Anne Hathaway’s Performance in ‘Mother Mary’

David Lowery’s upcoming film Mother Mary stars Anne Hathaway as the titular character, a tormented pop star seeking the help of a scorned friend, played by Michaela Coel, amid a grand comeback concert.

When speaking with Empire, the director shared how he drew inspiration from Taylor Swift‘s 2018 Reputation tour and concert film when shaping both the character’s performances and identify. “Her Reputation concert film is one of the best concert films ever,” Lowery said. “It’s truly phenomenal. And for our concert sequences we looked at that repeatedly,” he told the publication. “You would not believe the amount of time we were talking about Taylor.”
