Jennifer Aniston Remembers Matthew Perry, ‘Friends’ on 30th Anniversary: ‘Family Forever’

Jennifer Aniston Remembers Matthew Perry, ‘Friends’ on 30th Anniversary: ‘Family Forever’

Friends is just a few months shy of turning 30 years old, a fact that Jennifer Aniston and Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson reflected on for Variety’s popular Actors on Actors series in an interview published Thursday.

During the heartfelt discussion, Aniston recalled Friends’ early days, when she and Matthew Perry pulled a light prank on co-star Lisa Kudrow as she was getting her hair done.

“It’s so strange to even think that it’s 30 years old,” Aniston said after Brunson brought up the anniversary. “I remember the day that it was going to premiere on television, on NBC: Matthew Perry and I were having lunch somewhere, and we knew Lisa was getting her hair colored. So we ran into the hair salon, and I snuck up — she was in the sink — and I took the nozzle from the guy that was supposed to be doing it and just started washing her hair. It definitely flew out of control, and that was unfortunate. But the excitement we had, it feels like yesterday.”

The duo spoke as they’re both vying for Emmy consideration: Brunson with Abbott Elementary and Aniston for The Morning Show.

Aniston also spoke about the staying power the sitcom, which debuted in 1994 and remains one of the most popular shows on streaming. “The fact that it’s had this long, wonderful life and it still means a lot to people is one of the greatest gifts I think all five of us — all six of us — we never could imagine,” Aniston said. “And we see each other. I talked on FaceTime with Court last night for an hour, and Lisa and the boys, and we just have a really — it’s a family forever.”

Perry died on Oct. 28, 2023, and following his death, Aniston shared a tribute to the actor. “He was such a part of our DNA. We were always the 6 of us,” she wrote at the time. “This was a chosen family that forever changed the course of who we were and what our path was going to be.”

Outside of Friends, Aniston and Brunson spoke about the pressures of social media while working on a show and the freedom that came with no social media and smartphones when shows in the Nineties and aughts were developed.

“I long for the days. I’m like, Man, I wish I could have been a showrunner, an actor, back then, when it wasn’t ‘We’re a part of your thing, and we know your handle,'” Brunson told Aniston. “It’s just jarring. I had a strict no social media policy for the first season, and I said, ‘I don’t care what social media is asking us to do. We have to do what we, the writers, want to do. We know these characters. This is our world.’”

Danny Masterson Loses Rape Conviction Appeal, Vows to Take Fight to State Supreme Court

Danny Masterson’s bid to overturn his 2023 rape convictions and 30-year prison sentence was denied by a California appeals court on Tuesday, leading lawyers for the That ‘70s Show star to vow they’ll seek review in the state’s highest court.

In their 89-page ruling, obtained by Rolling Stone, a panel of three appellate justices rejected Masterson’s arguments that his trial judge improperly handled evidence, violated his right to a fair trial, and “exhibited hostility toward Scientology.” Masterson claimed the judge had demonstrated bias by “comparing Scientology to white supremacists, gangs, and Satanists,” according to his appeal filings.

‘The One About Matthew Perry’ Reveals Emotional Way His ‘Friends’ Cast Said Goodbye at His Funeral

It’s been three years since Matthew Perry was found dead in his Los Angeles home — a tragedy that struck both Hollywood stars and devoted fans of the hit NBC sitcom Friends.

Authorities later revealed that Perry, 54, drowned in his hot tub due to the “acute effects of ketamine” in his system. His death triggered a lengthy criminal investigation that saw Perry’s live-in assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, his dealer Jasveen Sangha — often known by clients as the “Ketamine Queen” — and three others sentenced to multiple years in federal prison for providing Perry with the drugs. It was a devastating ending for an actor who had a life-long issue with substance abuse and was celebrated for his frank and honest revelations about his struggle.

Born and raised in Scarborough, Toronto, Bauza built a career spanning more than 400 acting credits, becoming one of the principal voices behind Warner Bros.’ Looney Tunes franchise. He voiced Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Tweety, Marvin the Martian and other characters, following in the footsteps of legendary voice actor Mel Blanc. Bauza worked with Warner Bros. for more than 15 years.

Beyond Looney Tunes, Bauza voiced Fozzie Bear in Disney Junior’s Muppet Babies, Puss in Boots in the Netflix series The Adventures of Puss in Boots and characters in Avatar: The Last Airbender, Teen Titans Go! and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He also publicly campaigned for the release of Coyote vs. Acme after Warner Bros. initially shelved the film in 2023. The project eventually secured distribution through Ketchup Entertainment, with Bauza reprising his role as Daffy Duck.

At the time of his death, Bauza was preparing to voice Daffy in Bye Bye Bunny: A Looney Tunes Musical, according to Variety. He leaves behind a son, from his union with Canadian-American animation director and producer Jessica Borutski.

Elon Musk’s Grok Finally Delivers First Installment of ‘Historically Accurate’ ‘The Odyssey’

Three months after Elon Musk promised to make a “historically accurate” version of The Odyssey using AI, Grok shared the first installment of its response to Christopher Nolan’s cinematic epic.

When Nolan’s take on Homer’s epic poem arrived in June, Musk accused the director of being an “anti-White racist” over his casting of Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy. “He wants the awards.” On Musk’s X and other right-leaning platforms, similar complaints were made about Elliot Page’s role as Sinon.

Nick Reiner Trust Fund Battle Heads to Mediation as Lawyer Agrees to Fund Commissary Account

Nick Reiner is a step closer to accessing a portion of his $1.7 million trust fund to rehire prominent defense attorney Alan Jackson as he fights charges that he fatally stabbed his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner. At a court hearing Friday, his lawyer announced that the dispute over the funds would move to private settlement talks.

“We’re happy to report that at your honor’s direction, we met and conferred about mediation and settlement, and all parties have now scheduled a global mediation,” Nick’s trust lawyer, Anita P. Wu, told Judge Ruben Garcia in downtown Los Angeles. Wu said the mediation was set for Dec. 16 before retired Judge Mitchell L. Beckloff, who previously oversaw Michael Jackson’s estate. Any settlement would require Garcia’s approval.
