The rights to Tina Turner‘s name, image, and likeness now belong to Pophouse Entertainment, according to The Associated Press. The company, which ABBA’s Björn Ulvaeus co-founded, also acquired a majority stake in the rights to Turner’s music catalog from BMG. Terms of the acquisition have not been revealed.

Jessica Koravos, Pophouse’s CEO, told the AP that it was interested in Turner, who died in 2023, “because she has such an incredible visual presence and such an incredible stage energy.” The company, known for digital avatars and immersive experiences, is exploring “projects that can portray that and try to recreate that to some degree,” Koravos said.

Ultimately, Koravos said Pophouse wants to “consolidate [Turner’s] legacy.” She did not say whether or not the company was making a Turner avatar but did tease an announcement of its plans to arrive sometime in the next six months.

Turner’s estate was “informed and participating in the conversations,” the executive said, but not considered a “counterparty” in the transaction.

“[BMG’s] responsibility, alongside Pophouse and the Estate, is to ensure her work continues to resonate with audiences around the world, while remaining true to the strength, independence and originality that defined her career,” Alistair Norbury, president of BMG U.K., Continental Europe and APAC, said in a statement. The company has retained an undisclosed percentage of Turner’s catalog.

Pophouse, which helped create the ABBA Voyage show in 2021, acquired Kiss’ catalog, brand name, and I.P. for a deal worth more than $300 million in 2024. The band had previously debuted the company’s digital avatars for the band at the final night of its 2023 farewell tour; those avatars are expected to get their own show in 2027. Cyndi Lauper also aligned with the company, which acquired a majority share of her music rights, in 2024. The company also owns the majority rights to Avicii’s music.

Labrinth Slams Music Industry for Turning ‘Gods Noise Into Business Transactions’

Labrinth has delivered another scathing criticism of the music industry, just a few days after he denounced his record label, Columbia Records, and Euphoria in a since-deleted social media post.

In a new Instagram post shared on Tuesday, the composer behind the HBO show’s memorable soundtrack described an industry that debases its own art and the people who make it for the sake of consumerism. “We hover around big stars hoping to be in their place one day like snakes waiting to eat their owners,” began Labrinth in his post. “We walk into this industry as pure creatives that wish to share color and get turned into wolves of wall street dribbling over stocks and shares,” he continued, “We have meaningful relationships with like minded people and discard them as soon as a bigger opportunity arrives. Who the fuck said this is normal or ok to turn what I call Gods noise (our music) into business transactions I dont subscribe.”

Kanye West Challenges $140,000 Jury Award at Malibu-Mansion Trial: ‘Cannot Stand’

Kanye West is seeking to overturn the $140,000 jury verdict awarded to handyman Tony Saxon after a recent two-week trial in Los Angeles.

Saxon testified he was severely injured while living and working at the $57 million Malibu mansion designed by Pritzker Prize-winning Japanese architect Tadao Ando that West, now known as Ye, purchased for $57 million in 2021. Saxon said Ye planned to transform the luxury contemporary beach house into an off-the-grid bunker and ordered it stripped of all plumbing, toilets, fixtures, cabinets, electricity, and a built-in concrete fireplace. When Ye sold the property three years later, it fetched $21 million, marking a steep loss.
