Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce just celebrated their wedding with a blowout party at Madison Square Garden. New details suggest that the ultraexclusive event included 1,000 guests, star-studded musical performances, big-ticket prizes, and even caviar-topped chicken nuggets. It seems the power couple went all out to celebrate their love story, so what is the final price tag on the wedding of the century?
Well, it’s hard to come to an actual estimate without concrete pictures from inside of the Garden, and no official details have been released in regards to the cost of the wedding. Lindsay Landman, a luxury event planner with more than 20 years of experience in the sector, suggests a total that lands somewhere within the range of $20 to $25 million. Estimates have not been confirmed by either Swift or Kelce. Days before their nuptials, the couple also notably donated a generous gift of $26 million across 20 charities in the U.S.
“Because of the level of stature that she has reached, the number one consideration for her with her wedding was security,” says Tracy Taylor Ward, creative director and owner of luxury event planning and design firm Tracy Taylor Ward Design. “If she wasn’t at the level that she was at with her career and she could have gotten married in a place that didn’t require so much security, she would’ve spent less.”
You can’t put a price on safety (or on forever), but here’s a breakdown of what key elements from the wedding may have cost to reach an eight-figure total.
The Venue: $600,000 to $1.2 million
Let’s start with the much-discussed venue: New York’s Madison Square Garden. Everyone has been trying to figure out just how much it costs to rent out one of the most iconic arenas in the world. According to TMZ, it is $1 million a night to rent the entire venue, but The New York Times reports a larger range between $600,000 to $800,000, citing “industry insiders who have experience hosting events at the venue.” Another source told the Times it would be “somewhere between $1.2 million and $1.6 million” to rent two days at the Garden.
Landman estimates that renting out MSG for three or four days would amount to less than $10 million. “Everyone thinks of it just as the arena, but there are many different venues and outlets within it,” she said. “If you’re going to do a full buyout, you have to rent the arena as well as the theaters, the restaurants, the concessions.” Landman also explains that union labor factors into the cost. “All labor has to be bought out by any event and compensated by any event … even if you don’t use it, you still have to pay for the labor that would have been employed if that space were engaged,” she adds.
According to these ballparks, Swift and Kelce could have spent around half a million to $2 million to rent the space, but that doesn’t factor in the price of the permit they had to obtain from the city to shut down nearby streets. The permit would bring the cost up by about $60,000 if you ask TMZ, or $132,000 if you ask the Times.
The Dress: $100,000 to $500,000
It seems like the whole world is waiting for Swift to finally reveal her wedding dress. Without an actual picture of the dress and its design, it’s challenging to nail down a good estimate on what it would be valued at. As a Swift representative shared with Rolling Stone, the dress was designed by Jonathan Anderson as part of Christian Dior Haute Couture “in close collaboration with the bride.” The design marks his “first couture wedding dress for a world-renowned celebrity.” The luxury fashion brand showed Anderson’s latest couture designs in Paris on Monday, after which a Dior spokesperson “promised all would be revealed — at some point, after Swift herself posts the first pictures on her Instagram,” per the Times.
Anderson has designed two couture wedding dresses in the past, for model Ming Xi and Brazilian influencer Elisa Zarzur. Sources familiar with Anderson’s work and the Dior brand estimate that the value of the dress could range anywhere from $100,000 to $500,000, but it’s possible Swift didn’t actually pay anywhere near the valued price. “I could totally see how Christian Dior would want to partner with her on this major moment and might offer something as a gift or might give her a great deal because they have a close friendship and she’s constantly wearing items from them,” Ward says.
For context, a royal wedding gown from 2004 racked up a $13.7 million price tag, while Serena Williams has one of the most expensive celebrity wedding gowns of all time, when she wore a Sarah Burton-designed Alexander McQueen dress and cape priced at $3.5 million.
The Tux: $6,000 to $10,000
Just like Swift’s dress, Kelce also wore a haute couture Christian Dior look designed by Anderson. According to the Dior website, the high end of their retail suits hit a nearly $6,000 maximum. A custom suit would be higher than that, but without definitive details of the design, it’s hard to tell just how much more.
The Shoes: About $3,000
Swift once sang, “If the shoe fits, walk it in everywhere you go” and clearly lived by those words for her big day. Both the superstar and NFL star wore custom Christian Louboutins. Swift has her own history with the brand: In 2023, for the Eras Tour, she rocked a handful of custom-made red-bottoms. Women’s high heels on the brand’s site retail for around $1,000 while men’s dress shoes go for about $1,250. The nature of a custom-made pair ups that price, depending on the design, so let’s say that they spent around $3,000 on their shoes, give or take.
The Lighting: $350,000 to $1 million
Ward estimates that the wedding lighting and production was in the “high six figures into the seven figures.”
“The main reason why lighting is so expensive at Madison Square Garden is because you need so much of it and there’s so much equipment,” she said, and echoed the labor cost that Landman brought up. Landman estimates a minimum spend of $350,000 on lighting. “My guess is just based on the space and how much you would have to do to transform it,” Landman says. “I’d be shocked if they spent less than half a million, and that would be separate from whatever they’re doing for the stage lighting,” she added, referring to the musical performances that Paul McCartney and Stevie Nicks put on.
The Decor: $500,000 to $1 million
By the sounds of it, Swift and Kelce completely transformed MSG so that it could feel intimate and mimic a real-life garden — that’s not an easy, or cheap, feat. Both Ward and Landman estimate the couple spent around $1 million for decor. “When you choose a venue as vast as Madison Square Garden with as many design requirements in order to cover up the space and make it feel intimate and soft and not like a huge arena, that’s where the costs come in,” Ward says. Those pieces include curtains and woodworking structures, while flowers are calculated on a separate line item, according to the luxury wedding and event planners.
No photos of the floralscape have been released, but Landman estimates a $1 million spend on them alone. Rachel Wayne, founder of NYC-based florist Blxxm, says, “I’m sure she probably spent at least $500,000 to $1 million. I would hope [she did] for it to fill a space that large.”
The Food: About $2 million
Last, but certainly not least, is the food. Some guests have reported that there was not a formal wedding dinner, but instead food stations that included fun hors d’oeuvres like chicken nuggets topped with caviar. “I would assume that she was spending anywhere from $1,000 to $2,000 per person for food and beverage,” Ward says, adding, “But it could have been significantly higher than that if she was bringing in specialty types of foods or flying things in from Rhode Island that were something that was close to her heart and felt significant to her.” Us Weekly reported that the couple placed a late-night pizza order for the wedding from Mama’s TOO!, a local shop. If that’s true, it would bring the food total up to roughly $3,000 more.
The Over/Under
All in all, the possibly eight-figure total for the whole event makes sense, especially when so many elements could reach the millions. There’s no denying how dizzying these high price tags sound, either. But the reality is it’s not that insane as far as luxury weddings go, at least according to those well-acquainted with that world.
“There are dozens of multimillion-dollar weddings every single week in New York and around the world,” Landman says. “This sounds all completely insane, but this is literally what I do every single day.”
