Death From Above 1979 Announce New Album 'Private Lives' and Share Title Track

After postponing their scheduled fall tour earlier this mont, Toronto dance-rock duo Death From above 1979 has announced a new album titled Private Lives, out on January 29, 2027 on Last Gang/MNRK.

The band also shared the album's title track, with a video starring Danish actor Kim Bodnia. “The song ‘Private Lives’ is a declaration of privacy in an era of overexposure. We are compelled, often by one another, to share our most intimate moments and quietest thoughts. To what end? More often than not, to be part of a cheap consumer feedback loop,” the band says about the abrasive track.

The new record is the follow-up to 2021's Is 4 Lovers, and includes a collaboration with Brazilian-Canadian indie-electro outfit CSS on “Mystery.”

The Canadian run of their North American tour begins in Waterloo on February 24, followed by Toronto's HISTORY on February 25 and London on February 26. Ottawa has been added for February 27, before the band heads to Montréal's Théâtre Beanfield on March 1 and Québec City on March 2.

The western leg includes Winnipeg, Red Deer, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver and Victoria between March 20 and 27.

Death From Above 1979 is also celebrating 25 years as a band. Their debut album, You're a Woman, I'm a Machine, was released in 2004 to much critical acclaim in the indie scene and gaining a devoted audience, thanks to songs like "Black History Month" and ''Romantic Rights''.
