Aaron Carter‘s mom is hoping her son will be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Jane Carter Schneck launched a GoFundMe fundraiser on Wednesday “to secure a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame” for Carter, who died in 2022 at age 34. She is aiming to raise $85,000. Schneck told TMZ that the effort has the support of Carter’s brothers, Nick Carter and Angel Carter.

“The funds will cover the creation, installation, and long-term maintenance of the star,” Schneck wrote on the GoFundMe page. “We are coming together as fans, friends, and supporters to honor Aaron Carter’s legacy. Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer. If you’re unable to give, sharing this campaign means just as much. Let’s come together to celebrate Aaron’s life, his music, and the lasting mark he left on so many hearts.”

A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame involves a nomination process via the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Each year, the committee selects 24 to 30 people for inclusion on the Walk of Fame. The criteria include “professional achievement, longevity in the category of five years or more, contributions to the community, and the guarantee that the celebrity will attend the dedication ceremony if selected. Posthumous awards require a two-year waiting period after death.”

The deadline for this year’s nominations is May 15. Schneck confirmed to TMZ that she plans to submit the application for Carter for that date. The application fee is $275. As of early Thursday morning, Schneck’s GoFundMe had raised $186.

Carter died from a drug-linked drowning. The singer was found dead in his bathtub by a housekeeper. According to his autopsy report, Carter “became incapacitated while in the bathtub due to the effects of inhaling compressed gas and taking alprazolam [Xanax]. This resulted in him becoming submerged under the water, unable to breathe, and ultimately led to his death.”

Carter released his self-titled solo album in 1997 at nine years old and secured a spot opening for his brother Nick’s Backstreet Boys, which made him an overnight global sensation. His sophomore album, the platinum-selling 2000’s Aaron’s Party (Come Get It), featured his biggest hits “I Want Candy” and the LP’s title track. Then, also a budding teen actor, Carter appeared on episodes of Lizzie McGuire and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.

M.I.A. Sues Kid Cudi for $2.8 Million After Being Kicked Off ‘Rebel Ragers’ Tour

M.I.A. has sued Kid Cudi for more than $2.8 million after the musician, whose full name is Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi, removed her from his Rebel Ragers Tour following “offensive remarks” she made while serving as opener at a recent gig.

In a complaint filed in the United States Court District of California Western Division on May 29 by M.I.A., born Mathangi Arulpragasam, and obtained by Rolling Stone, the singer claims that Kid Cudi knew her political beliefs and reputation before he asked her to open the Live Nation-produced Rebel Ragers Tour.

Watch Jesse Plemons Revive His ‘Friday Night Lights’ Metal Band Crucifictorious

Fifteen years after the last episode of Friday Night Lights, Jesse Plemons, who starred as metal-loving football player Landry Clarke, resurrected his old Christian metal band Crucifictorious (again) for another gig.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the show’s debut, Plemons and co-star Stephanie Hunt (who played Devin Corrigan) appeared onstage at the ATX TV Festival in Austin over the weekend. “I think this is a song that Crucifictorious would cover and one of the best songs ever,” Hunt said. But rather than Cookie Monster vocalizing their way through breakneck metal, the duo take on Daniel Johnston’s plaintive “Devil Town.” With Plemons on guitar, harmonica, and vocals and Hunt on vocals, they led the crowd through a singalong version of the track, which featured notably in the series.

Latto Leans Into Romantic Rap on ‘Big Mama’

Since emerging from Atlanta as “Miss Mulatto” on Jermaine Dupri’s reality-TV series The Rap Game — an alias that led to accusations of trolling before she mercifully shortened her name — Latto has built a surprisingly resilient career. Her first three albums, beginning with 2020’s Queen of Da Souf, are each certified gold and yielded at least one major hit, from 2021’s Mariah Carey-quoting “Big Energy” to 2023’s “Put It on the Floor,” the latter with Cardi B.

Yet despite topping the Billboard Hot 100 in 2023 with her cameo on Jung Kook of BTS’ “Seven” and earning three Grammy Award nominations to date, Latto remains underappreciated, neither as critically acclaimed as Monaleo and Doechii nor a multiplatinum brand like Cardi. She spits as hard as anyone, and has the saucy, high-maintenance personality that’s a virtual requirement among women in mainstream rap. However, her albums can sound like a patchwork of impulses, torn between satiating her hardcore audience and designing a résumé for pop-radio rotation.
