Major promoter Evenko has softened its bag policy for upcoming events at Montréal’s Parc Jean-Drapeau, just days after introducing a much stricter rule for ÎleSoniq and facing backlash from festivalgoers.
The changes are part of a confusing series of adjustments that began before ÎleSoniq. In July, Osheaga introduced new bag restrictions designed to speed up entry. Under that policy, transparent bags could measure up to 30 by 30 by 23 centimetres, while smaller non-transparent bags, including handbags, waist bags and fanny packs, were allowed up to 23 by 15 by 10 centimetres.
That two-tier system was also in place for ÎleSoniq until organizers announced a last-minute change in early August. For the EDM festival, Evenko required bags to be transparent, effectively eliminating the smaller non-transparent option that had been available at Osheaga.
The move drew significant criticism, with many attendees questioning why the rules had changed so close to the event. Evenko said it had heard the concerns from festivalgoers and subsequently made some adjustments, including allowing hydration packs through designated screening lines.
Now, the promoter is restoring the two-tier approach for country music festival Lasso, which takes place this weekend at Parc Jean-Drapeau.
For Lasso, non-transparent handbags, waist bags and fanny packs will be permitted as long as they do not exceed 23 by 15 by 10 centimetres. Larger transparent bags, handbags and backpacks will be allowed up to 30 by 30 by 23 centimetres. The same rules are listed for the upcoming Vans Warped Tour. The policy will also apply to next major Evenko events at the park, including the Iron Maiden and AC/DC concerts this Fall.
